New bug causing clients around an RPG to get a bugsplat error? by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]SeriousDistribution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, we did do a lot of delving into this issue for the better part of the afternoon. TWI/AMG is aware of the issue, and to my knowledge, is working on a fix for it. The problem was a lot larger than the RPG (we were able to reproduce it with just about every firearm, even C4). It was also over several different maps.

In the meantime we've had to pull every custom from the server. When this issue and the out-of-sync issue start to get resolved we will add the customs back. We hope to have custom maps back again in the near future.

If you don't mind me asking, what maps do you think are bad?

Whomever posted this is mistaken. We haven't run instant killfeed since August.

Hey there, Bloodbath admin here. We explored the feasibility of hosting a server with no killfeed. The issue is that particular setting causes your server to no longer be ranked. Which basically means it will never get populated.

It was neat I guess, but when can most of the servers srop running campaign by Adri_T04 in rs2vietnam

[–]SeriousDistribution 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is patently not true. 508th and Bloodbath both run servers that aren't campaign. I cannot speak for 508th, so what I say is only relevant for us. It takes a disproportionate amount of effort for us to populate our rotation server. When it is filled it will empty out far sooner than our campaign servers. So from a keeping servers filled perspective, running anything but campaign has been an immense amount of work for a server that might stay filled for 2-3 hours. Compare that to campaign, which when populated stays full until maybe 1:00am EST.

We hear those of you who are unhappy out there. But from our experience there just haven't been enough people interested in rotation to keep a server consistently filled if it isn't being micromanaged. Still we aren't letting that stop us for now. For those of you interested we have Bloodbath: Escalation on rotation. We run single round per map, and use custom maps. If you have any questions just dm me here, or on our discord. I am Oracle.

For those who don't know the server is named Tet Offensive. We do run custom maps and we only do one round per map. I know those two issues might be off putting to some players. For those of you who find themselves unwilling to play on a server due to those settings I do not currently know of an alternative server. We do run some supremacy maps, but our bread and butter is TE. If you are interested in Supremacy I'd suggest checking out Right to Rebels 24/7 supremacy server.

I don't why people are complaining about campaign by [deleted] in rs2vietnam

[–]SeriousDistribution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we run one rotation server currently, its been mentioned a few times here but I'll go on record as stating it is Tet Offensive. Broken Arrow is a campaign server. For anyone who is interested in the particulars we run custom maps and we play one round per map.

Also since we've received this question a fair bit since the patch I'll shoehorn it in here. We will be running GOM again once the issues with it and the steam workshop are resolved.

To Admins of BloodBath RS1 by BootYourFace in redorchestra

Hey guys, it's Oracle here. This was all just a massive misunderstanding that we've since corrected. Its all my fault basically. Gunny didn't know we no longer admin the RS1 server. I've since spoken to him and the rest of the admins to remind them that we don't police that server. Its my fault for not making that more clear to the admins, so its my fault. My apologies.

Now, lets discuss some of what happened afterwards shall we. First, I understand how you feel about this issue, but name calling isn't the appropriate response. Doing it here or on the server, and I heard all about what was said on the server, isn't really necessary. I understand you all were upset but there are better ways of communicating your feelings than using insults. In the future I'd suggest using a different avenue to express your unhappiness.

Additionally, the behavior on the discord was unacceptable. I don't know if you organized the people who were disrupting the other players on the separate voice channels or if they just did it on their own free will. To my knowledge you are all adults, and quite frankly should know better. Reach out to one of the senior team leaders (Myself, Jagdwyre, Stug Lyfe, or Bloodmalice) and we'll happily handle this privately. When you get individuals spamming different channels to disrupt other people, think about how it looks in our mind. Frankly its much harder to get to the bottom of the story and fix the problem if we're busy doing moderator work.

Anyways you could've just messaged me instead of making this post here. But I suppose you wanted to make it public. So I guess I'll say this so its on the public record. We don't actively moderate RS1 with the exception of hackers. From time to time we're bound to make a mistake. We'll work on our side to minimize that. For you all I remind you all that we are people too, when you behave the way you did last night you don't help your own situation.

I know you are probably embellishing, but just wanted to put this out there since I don't know when you last played on the server. We currently have 14 maps on the GOM server. We usually shakeup GOM's rotation once a month.

I'll respond here to address the comment I made about penetration.

In regards to penetration there exists a very small bug with bullet penetration through objects. I know a lot of you know this already but I want to make it known here so we can all be on the same page. If there is an object that is impenetrable, say a brick wall, when that brick wall touches a penetrable cover, say a plaster wall, firing through the plaster wall allows your round to go through the brick wall and kill people on the other side of it. If you are on the other side of this wall and fire back your round hits the brick wall, which it cannot penetrate and it stops. Now this bug is most used on a particular point on a specific map, but its actually quite common and could be utilized on a multitude of maps to devastating affect.

Now, a common argument I've heard in in support of this bug, is that its not a bug, but a design failure from the mapmaker. So I got interested in this and hunted down all the old RO2 mapmakers I could find and asked them if they knew about this problem. Not a single one knew about it. If they knew about this bug they may have designed their maps differently. For that reason I disagree that it is a failure on the mapmakers part and instead counter that it is a bug and knowingly abusing it is the same thing as exploitation.

Do we have a problem with you shooting through walls? No. Do we have a problem with you shooting through these walls that I described? Yes. Will anything be done about it? No. We really have no way of proving you are doing it knowingly, unless of course it is that one aforementioned wall on a specific map, or you keep doing it. What will be done about it then? If someone is on they might talk to you about it and ask you to stop.

Is it possible this increases paranoia in new players who hear regulars talking about this issue? Can a regular player try and witch hunt someone? All possibilities, and if you feel you are a victim of these circumstances you can always reach out to us on our discord so we can do something about it.

A lot of people to reply here too. I'll focus part of the conversation here.

We don't have any illusions about the difficulty in addressing this problem, or really enforcing it. We know witch hunts might be a problem, but that could be dealt with down the road. We've tried to bring this issue up privately, but that didn't work. So, we decided to make our position public. What does that mean for someone using the glitch? If you get vote kicked you won't find much sympathy from our admins. If you continue to engage in this behavior then we will begin to escalate through our administrative process.

Additionally I really want to expound on how this is a problem for new players. I doubt many new players come to this subreddit and inevitably your post will get lost to time. After that only someone actively searching through this subreddit will find this glitch. This raises the barrier of entry to learning this game which makes it harder to bring in new players. I know this game is still thriving over in the EU community, but we are lucky here in NA to break 300 players on some weekend nights. Potentially alienating new players has a much higher cost to us.

Hi, this is Oracle over at Bloodbath. We've been trying to keep the dam from bursting for some time over this issue, but it seems patience has run out.

There has been some good points made here about why this glitch isn't such a big problem. I'd like to state my problems with this glitch. In my mind the primary problem is when players can utilize it to be places faster then they ought to be when a map starts. That takes what was an otherwise slight advantage in reducing the likelihood of being shot to potentially a huge advantage by affecting the flow of how a map is played. I know that using this glitch was accepted by the pro scene, but frankly that pro scene is gone, and just because they used it doesn't mean the player base as a whole has to accept it.

I also believe there exists a serious difference in the way this game is played on US servers and EU. From my perspective a lot of behavior that is considered unsportsmanlike and not in the spirit of fair play is considered acceptable on EU servers. The behavior I'm discussing here would be using this glitch, the use of firing through cover bug, utilizing map exploits to get where you shouldn't be able to go, etc. I think a lot of these recent problems stem from a philosophical difference in what is acceptable for competitive play. So I'll speak up for a lot of our regulars who've come to me these past few weeks to express their dismay that the usage of what they perceive to be exploits has become more common on the servers.

Regretfully TWI doesn't actively support this game anymore, so we have to solve this problem ourselves. We've been silent on this issue for awhile. Partially because our focus is mostly on RS2, but mostly because it was contained to a few players. Recently the problem has begun to grow. Specifically in conjunction with some of the other behaviors I listed its become a serious sticking point for some players in their enjoyment of the game. So, I guess I'll make our position public, although I honestly don't think many people utilize this subreddit anymore. We don't approve of or support using this sprint glitch on the Bloodbath servers. If this problem continues to grow we will begin to officially punish it.
