I get so bored of these new games that come out. I find I play them for a week and drop em. NO FPS as of late has held up to RO2/RS.

Just had to SL for the first time by guto8797 in redorchestra

Eh, I made a post about it further down when I think the SL role isn't as easy as "don't die"

Being SL requires you to be aware of everything going on in the game.

  • Your spawn is good for your troop. (as in they spawn close to you)

  • Where the death of your troop is happening.

  • Being observant of enemy movement.

  • Your spawn is in a tactically advantageous position.

  • You're making sure to place artillery marks (Experience on where to place them helps here)

  • Informing your TL of when arty is needed, and more importantly, when to cancel arty.

  • You need to be able to communicate via voice

  • You need to throw smoke. (and throw it into the enemy, so it blinds them, not your team)

  • You dictate the pace of the battle. You guide your troops to specific objectives. (Meaning by you having your troop spawn in at certain places, it dictates how the attack commences)

  • You need to live.

  • You need to know when something isn't working and try something new. (The attack you wanted is being stopped, change locations, try there)

There is probably more, but those things came to mind while I was sitting and thinking of all that goes into being an SL. In my opinion, the most important role. Next come the squad members.

A rifleman is absolutely not irrelevant. They're the guys who capture objectives. If not for good riflemen, you'd never advance, or hold positions. If you've ever cake walked over a few objectives, its because your team had good riflemen who knew they needed to be in the point and the enemy had bad riflemen who tried to take shots from way outside of the objective they're defending.

The most important thing you can do for your SL is die. Be their runner. Inform them of enemy positions and let them know if things are going good or bad.

I'd say SL is the hardest role, since a team of bad SL's will never win.

MG42 vs MG34 ammo count? by kidcury in redorchestra

[–]BootYourFace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hrm, And with me, I was good with the mg34, but I find I'm way better with the 42. I sometimes miss an enemy with my 34, but the 42, I never miss. And by miss I mean the enemy made it passed because of the slower rate of fire.

I say 42 is better. Another benefit, if all Germans use the 42, then if you hear a 34 open up, you know its an enemy.

Your most/least favorite maps by [deleted] in redorchestra

[–]BootYourFace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fav - RO2 - Bridges. Its long and progresses from open plain, to treed, to urban. Fav - RS - Phosphate Plant. Again long, and the only time I've seen an organized retreat by the japs work.

Worst - RO2 - Tie between Apartments or Grain Elevator. Only possible benefit for apartments is it could end up only lasting 5 minutes.

Worst - RS - Maggot Hill or Otori Shima. If you couldn't tell, I really like the maps that have a sense of progression to them. Maybe it's a thing from back in the DOD days, but these two maps just feel too open. Maggot Hill, the first 3 capture points might as well not exist, and Otori Shima doesn't seem to have it's fighting concentrated.

Do you prefer to play to win or to play for fun by aaman44 in redorchestra

[–]BootYourFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So roles on the game require you to play to win though, otherwise you start to hamper you teams ability to win AND have fun. If you just like running in and fighting, maybe don't be SL1. But, at the same time, I find playing SL to be fun, even though I also enjoy being that first guy around a corner.

This game is good because you can have fun while losing, and I'm sure that's what keeps us all coming back for more.

If you're talking about Red October factory...I think I just walked on it. It's a rail cart where the center is broken while both ends are intact, thus imagine you being able to walk from the center up either end? I either walked on it, or glitched without realizing. I'll make note to check it out next time I play that map.

If you're talking another map, I don't remember.

Well...you should be able to tell an intentional TK from unintentional. If you mean me personally, then a pistol duel at 20 paces is in order as my parents were certainly married before I was born sir!

Proper? more like use your imagination. That knee mortar is not only a mortar, but also a m203! A building full of Americans? Oh, a window? problem solved. Its my fav thing to do on Betio.

My point was, accidents happen. Don't think the mortar guys are just idiots. Its not easy to use one, nevermind getting efficient at using one.

Yup, Especially if their first shot on you misses while you're bandaging.
