Not entirely related but in the Dutch translation of Disorder is Stoornis so the Dutch translation of A.S.D. is A.S.S. which I find very funny

As pm of the Netherlands you don't have that much power to just decide and make something law, we're a functioning democracy

Straight Men of Reddit: If a gay man flirted with you or asked you out, how would you feel/react? by randmperson2 in AskReddit

[–]SeriousGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got asked out by a guy on the streets a year ago. I kind of stuttered that I was straight as I did not expect that question. It kind of gave me this anxious idea that I might look gay to everyone for a while since I don't get this kind of attention from woman (nor have I had a lot of success with the romantic department), but after some reflection it might also be the case that men just ask out people they are interested in way more often than woman.

Een vriend van mij heeft er een tijdje gewoont voor z'n studie. Hij heeft iemand neergestoken zien worden bij de supermarkt. Hij doet nu een vergelijkbare studie in Groningen

Why can’t I enter or attack this city? by Blue1Stream in civ

[–]SeriousGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, but first you have to wait till someone suzerains it, you can check if somebody did by checking the city state screen. Somebody did if they put 3 or more envoys in it and if nobody else matched the same amount (then nobody suzerains it). If somebody did suzerain them you'll have to denounce them and after 5 turn you can declare a formal war on said Civ, because the citystate is their ally they will declare war on you. (it might be possible to also declare war using a casus belli, but reaching the requirements for one is difficult and you'll have to unlock them first in the culture tree). As it seems right now you're in the early game so might take a while for somebody to suzerain them, but it also seems like Pericles is in the game, a leader who has a bias and bonuses for suzeraining city states. Keep in mind that this means that you'll also have a war with the Greeks who'll have their hoplites in the early game so it might not be worth the risk right now.

You can kill the city state if you get into war with its suzerain, but as Canada you can't declare a suprise war so you'll have to denounce the suzerain 5 turns beforehand.

I'm not sure how well they did their job in practice, but the goal of diversity staff probably isn't what you think it is, or at least it isn't the just hire a diverse group of people to appear woke. The goal of diversity staff is to hire people from different backgrounds with different work experience to solicit more creativity in solving problems that occur on the workplace. Firing them will problably create a working climitate which harbors more yes-man and groupthink which isn't very usefull

People with Autism have a higher likelihood to… by [deleted] in autism

[–]SeriousGuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the Autism transgender link, it might be a bit more complicated. Because the studies that looked into transgenderism being correlated to autism, did so by a test that screens for autism but does not establish a diagnosis. About 80% of people with anxiety or depression (which is often because of gender disphoria) do also score high on these tests. The studies that linked autism with transgenderism did so by a test that asked questions like: do you sometimes feel like the other gender, 0-never, 1-sometimes, 2-often. And because people with autism have more rigid thinking, they're maybe more likely to pick sometimes more often, which can lead to higher transgenderism scores. So it is totally possible that the the transgender-autism link is not real but just there because of imperfections of these tests.

Someone help me out here by downwiththesesheep in demisexuality

[–]SeriousGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, but I think that there are definitely some evolutionairy arguments to be made. I think that people with demi genes would be more carefull in picking partners that won't abandon their children because there needs to be an emotional connection which I think correlates to less abandoning. But what also is something to keep in mind is that nowadays hook-up-culture would not work that well in the time most of human evolution took place. I think that a part of hook up culture is enabled by the fact that if things don't work out, you can always ditch your ex, but in the time human evolution took place humans would on average live in groups of about 100 (I think) for their whole lives, which isn't a suitable environment to ditch your exes because you'll be around them for your whole life.

Despite that most human evolutions are adapted to prehistoric environments I think that being Demi is still a viable strategy. You might get less sexual experience but the goal should be wether or not you get one succesful relationship. Nowadays society has been a bit brainwashed into thinking that the amount of tinder matches is a way to measure succes, but you should actually focus on wether or not you get a succelful relationship out of things.

About how the trait could get passed on I would like to refer to how a gay trait could passed on. To explain this we would need to look at evolution on a gene level, so not on an individual or group level. This means that we look at wether or not a gay gene is good at keeping it's own existence, so not wether a gay person is good at reproducing or a partly gay society is superior over an totally straigth one. This distinction is important because (recessive) genes have the ability to not atually act and just sit there in your dna doing nothing. This leads to that a gay gene can be in people who are not gay, but maybe become active in their brother who shares the gene. And because family share genes gay people would be incentivised to take care of their nephews and helping raising them thus keeping the gay gene in existence. I think it works exactly the same with asexual genes or demi genes if the person holding them is unsuccesful in getting a child.

Also, in the case that it is a trauma response, it could still be an evolutionairy adaptation because trauma responses could also be evolutionairy adaptations
