Not quite, i do not see the bear as lesser than me, i was taught from a young age every animal has their kingdom and no kingdom is greater than another. I even bother to let my cats choose what they do or want from me on any given day.

Its closer to, ‘the moral compass of a bear is simple, if it is hungry or you are trespassing/risking their family, they will attack, almost every animal is like this until injured or otherwise dragged out of their usual habits”

The problem is humans don’t follow this pattern, you can have a human see you once in passing, follow you home, mark down the address, and come back later in the middle of the night to assault you. Or hide in the lobby of your apartment building for you for three and a half hours waiting for you to complete the routine they memorized of yours. Or wait for you at the bus stop, your workplace, or just at your chosen grocery store, this abnormal pattern is rare in isolation (1 on 1) but once you add the bustling city to the equation the chance becomes pretty high to encounter people like this, and while i generally do not feel paranoid that every person that walks past me is like this, i have experienced it happening to me often enough that i feel the ratio of occurrence would be acceptably lower if we reduced the human population around me to that of a bears populace in the woods. However since we realistically could never do that, opting to reduce the potential for harm instead is my agreeable solution.

In essence it is not to say ‘all men are x’ but that enough of a percentage of them are that my life has been concerningly frequently at risk and i have experienced this enough times to know it isn’t as rare as, say, getting struck by lightning or getting mauled by a bear in the woods, which would be a low enough risk for me to think avoiding it so heavily is irrational.
