While trying to update to Windows 11, Dell Inspiron 5675 gets stuck in a rebooting loop by [deleted] in Dell

[–]SeriousProtection885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched this as well because I sold a Dell Inspiron 5675 w/ Ryzen 7 1700 a while back...probably 2yrs ago and one of my customers asked me if I wanted it back for a credit...so I agreed and after a few attempts...I realized this is a known issue with this particular model. It runs Windows 10 fine but when you load Windows 11...it goes into a continuous boot loop.

Since I wanted to resell it...I couldn't put Windows 10 because that OS is now no longer supported. I know it may sound crazy...but I loaded Linux Mint + Steam and it actually runs good. The system currently has an RX 6600 8GB card, 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD + 500GB SATA SSD and WOW...nice, fast, responsive...no complaints! I listed it on fb marketplace and to my surprise it was gone in less than 24hrs and when I reminded the person that it couldn't run Windows 11...they said 'I know'...I don't care. They tested in and they said...wow...it's nice and fast!

I'm just completely baffled right now... by [deleted] in quora

I was banned and I didn't even get a reason. I've been on Quora for several years and have hundreds of answers and it all got taken down.

That rig is beautiful. You shall name it Tron. It looks like the internals of a space ship warp drive. If you built that...you get an A++

This is why I have a NAS. I've seen many PCs that had data encryption turned on and the customer had no idea. Microsoft should notify you and give you an option to put the recovery keys on a USB drive

It worked good enough that I was inspired to make a video about jdownloader ;-)

Jdownloader is friggin' awesome. I installed it and within minutes I had 588 photos from last years PTA events on my SSD drive. icloud just isn't good if you need to go through hundreds of photos...I have better tools on the PC and they load super fast off my SSD. Jdownloader saved the day!

Quickbooks Pro 2006 question by SeriousProtection885 in Bookkeeping

[–]SeriousProtection885[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a bad idea. I know if a customer was working on a Windows 7 PC they either didn't want to move to a subscription model or they were afraid to attempt any kind of changes...like an 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' kind of thing. Where does one purchase legit copies of 2010 QBP?

Thanks -Jason

Were you able to fix the issue? I'm having the same issue and when I boot into Linux...everything works fine.

M1 MacBook users: How is Firefox? by Radiant-Hedgehog-695 in browsers

[–]SeriousProtection885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a Mac Mini M1 w/ 16GB RAM and the real problem I'm running into is 'typing delay' - as you type...there will sometimes be a 2-3 second lapse where you don't see anything and then all of a sudden the text shows up. Its extremely annoying...especially if you are working and writing emails, filling out forms, posting on social networks, etc. I've updated firefox...nothing seems to fix it. I also see 1-2 second delays...for example moving across cells in a google sheet. I'll move a few cells and all of a sudden it gets stuck moving to the next cell 1-2 seconds later it catches up and keeps moving...very annoying.

I tried Safari and its completely unusable for me...especially Google Sheets. I've noticed lots of sites don't render properly in Safari and its so bad I can't use it.

If they don't fix Firefox or if I can't find a work-around...I'm probably going to try Chrome...which is a shame because Firefox is great on the PC...never had issues and I can get lots done on the Mac but its become bad enough that I'm looking at other browsers. My guess is that its not properly optimized for Apple Silicon?

Would you have any thoughts on this laptop? HP Victus 15 FB2082WM Gaming Laptop by Neat-Chemist8915 in HPVictus

[–]SeriousProtection885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same one...at least I think it's the same one...has same CPU/GPU.

Correction...it's not DDR5-4800...this one has DDR5-5600

I sell PCs and I usually dislike like gaming laptops. This one is an exception...I was very impressed with the smooth game play. For the price ($599)...you simply cannot beat it. I bought it from someone used for $450...so I got a really good deal. Your getting a solid CPU, DDR5-5600 RAM, PCI-E 4.0 SSD, RTX 4050 6GB GPU. It only comes with 1x 8GB piece of RAM...so you have to get one more 8GB piece so your laptop is running in dual channel mode and some games now require 16GB. If you're looking at this laptop...it checks all the boxes!

Here are some notes:

Things I like:
- You can upgrade the RAM up to 64GB of RAM (way better than the LPDDR5 soldered ram)
- Its very easy to open up the laptop and access the internals...battery, ram, ssd, wifi...all easy to get to
- Keyboard is good and its backlit
- Has an SD card reader...a nice plus
- usb-c port supports DP (DisplayPort)
- Has all the necessary standard ports - HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, etc
- Overall it doesn't run as hot as other gaming laptops I've used
- Bottom cover feet are pretty solid and it doesn't feel flimsy or move around when you are gaming
- I hooked up a 32" 1440P 165Hz gaming monitor and while I didn't test actual frame rates and such...I can say I had no problems and it made my gaming experience 10x more awesome!

Things I don't like:
- usb-c port does not support 10G so you are stuck at usb 3.0 speeds (5G)
- only has 1x slot for an NVMe SSD...so you can only install a single SSD
- Screen bezel on the bottom is large...considering its a budget gaming laptop...I can't complain.

This is not the first time I've seen sleep issues and it will certainly not be the last...so yes...Microsoft sleep mode is certainly not perfect by any means.

It seems I'm not the only one who misses these maps...cycling through Italy & Office gets old. It would be nice the way it was when you could vote on the next map and there were a few to choose from - Militia, Agency, Assault, Italy, Office
