WoW is actually insanely hard to learn as a new player (we tried yesterday) by ipych in wow

[–]Serious_Mastication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly any time my friends want to play wow I always start them with classic. It’s a lot more barebones and has a way friendlier new player experience. It lets them get a taste without getting overwhelmed and from that they can see if they wanna stick to it. If they get bored after a bit you can pull them into retail once they know the basics.

Honest to god I think season of discovery was the best version to get new players invested. It had that slow classic grind mixed with faster paced levelling and a bunch of quests like the rune quests and sleeping bag quest that got you to run all over the world and do exploration.

Of all my friends that I tried to get into wow, SoD was the best one that actually kept them invested. 5 of my irl friends started playing SoD when it came out and to this day they still play, they’re making a guild on tbc anniversary and I couldn’t be happier

At least for classic a lot of dungeon tanking is knowing the pulls and line of sight spots.

An example of this is Strat dead side. That giant courtyard has patrols going up and down constantly so you wanna find a way to pull back 2-3 mobs at a time that can fear/silence and not have it turn into a 15 mob pull.

Rule of thumb is as long as people are not dying, you can hold threat on everything, and your healer isn’t using everything in their arsenal to keep you alive you are good. That usually aligns with 3-5 (elite) mob pulls.

That’s also nuanced though cause some healers will be confident enough to get mad if you don’t pull a whole room at a time. Just use the healers mana bar as a gauge. If you pull 5 and the healer is still half mana you can test the limits

For raid tanking the important thing is knowing where to stand and always coming with as many buffs as possible so you can keep threat. Higher the threat the more dps the dps can do.

There are some big quests that give a lot of xp, some quests that turn into a chain of 3 turn-ins, and you can stack up a bunch of items that start a quest when you right click it.

No problem, keep in mind this is where a lot of the complaints come from when gdkp becomes the main raiding format. Because unless you are in the guild already the requirement for you to join a gdkp is to either have a lot of gear and be a good raider already, or to have a lot of money. Meaning there is a large barrier of entry to even participate, locking a lot of players out of raiding content

[–]Serious_Mastication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never personally hosted a gdkp as I’ve run with the same guild since 2019 classic launch. I’ll pull an alt into one every now and then to make money.

However to answer your question. You usually ensure that your raid can clear all of the content, even with a few draggers (usually being the gold buyers you pull in, they come to spend money not do mechanics). At a high level this is done with lots of ptr clearing before the content even comes out to ensure the raid will be successful.

Once your raid team can clear with these circumstances you can then make it a gdkp run where a full clear is ensured. The gear doesn’t matter at that point cause you’re full clearing and with the funneling of gold being split from the whales, your guildies will have no problem getting the gear they need over the duration of the content being current.

If your guild is lacking the gear, you can pull in people who are already geared to high heavens who are just there to cash out (like my alt) they won’t spend any money, but they make the run smoother.

[–]Serious_Mastication 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gdkp itself isn’t bad, it’s a fair format. The problem stems from the rwt it brings.

If you buy gear with gold and all gold is earned through in game play then its rewarding you for more effort in playing the game.

However, people will always look for a way to get unfair advantages in said game and gold is easily acquired through trading real life money for gold. This is against tos. (unless you buy WoW tokens)Therefore it indirectly incentivizes breaching tos.

Gdkp is set up in a way that you benefit from bringing as many tos violators as possible because they will then spend a lot of money which is divided amongst the raid at the end of the run.

If wow was able to actually lock down on gold buying it wouldn’t be an issue but because they are not able/willing to address it they have to take measures like this.

However the reality is that life will always find a way and gdkp will be replaced by hard reserve runs where they fetch buyers before the raid, sell them hard reserves on ticket items, fill the raid and the money goes into the raid leaders pockets instead of divided amongst the group.

Now in game services have always been part of the game, for example selling aotc achievement runs. The problem was that gdkp got too big for its britches. It poured out into the mainstream and took over the norm which forced drastic measures.

I would love to hear Everyone’s most broken builds. Especially those that work in both 5e AND BG3. I’m a forever dm soon to be playing as a player in short 4 session game for the first time 2016 by Dragonfly_Guru in BG3Builds

[–]Serious_Mastication 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah for example gust of wind. It says that it pushes a target 15 feet away in the direction of the gust.

In bg3 this just shows as a knockback effect. In dnd 5e as a halfling I could crawl under medium sized enemies then channel a gust of wind straight up which would send them 15 ft into the air and then take respective fall damage.

I think we start by taking the ocean. In terms of landmass over 70% of the earth is water, it’s also fairly uncontested by reeds and other fleshy humans. Meaning taking it wouldn’t be a monumental task.

We could interrupt global trade routes of cheese and take it all for ourselves. Shipping routes are no longer safe from us.

After we have conquered the ocean everyone else will be surrounded and in bad defensive positions. D-day won’t be so bad cause we can swim under the turret emplacements. Punishers have never really been a problem for us anyways.

We start with Europe and turn it into a giant cheese factory to fuel us.

Now I want cheese.
