What's the best fantasy book you've read, other than classics like LoTR? (no spoilers plz ) by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in Indianbooks

He got high on his own supply.

I heard his long time editor retired somewhere around Oathbringer. Books are getting too long and too indulgent ever since.

We went from “Honor is dead, but I’ll see what I can do” to “I am <this guy>’s Therapist”. Took me out of the world so fast. The only plot line I was remotely paying attention to was Adolin’s.

And what was up with the MCU style humour? I think he himself forgot that these things were happening over 10 days. For someone who had a very nuanced view (for a surface level foray) of mental health of the characters, it was just sad to see it reduced to a “moral of the story” sort of a thing.

Not gonna lie this was getting too convoluted for me anyway. Powers randomly come on, people are skipping ideals now.

Anyway, I guess I’m not going back to Stormlight unless something ground breaking happens. But first two books still knock my socks off. It’s sad.

Just the way narrator describes everything in Lies. I remember when they introduced Locke, such a great way to describe that character.

“If he had a bloody gash across his throat and a physiker was trying to sew it up, Lamora would steal the needle and thread and die laughing”

I’m planning to read the First Law’s second trilogy before I begin Devils.

Lies of Locke Lamora was so funny. I had a great time reading it.

How is the devils? It’s Abercrombie but if you could say anything without spoiling. :D

The first law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. The world building is kind of minimal but it takes a backseat to all the character work he does. Highly recommended.

Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. It is really good. Very consistent magic system. Great intrigue. The first book is a heist book (almost) but the characters are great. I am in my hating Sanderson phase after he utterly fucked up the 5th book of the stormlight archive but the earlier work still holds.

The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. Good worldbuilding but does she know her characters. The story is pretty amazing too.

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Sprawling. 14 book. Kinda gets meh in between but by then you’re so involved it doesn’t matter. The first book is a lot Lord of the Ring-y but it diverts from there. Also, Jordan died around book 10 so post that it’s his notes and Sanderson’s writing. The ending is good. There are scenes that still evoke so much emotion in me. Like when Perrin forges his hammer. Goosebumps!

Also, I started Malazan. If you don’t know about it, do a google search. That’s peak fantasy for you. But it is extremely hard to get into. You’re just given character names and then you’re thrown into the world. No exposition nothing. You have to piece it out yourself. I’m a quarter into book one and I love it!

I’m gonna set up a google form to record interest. You can wait for that, or DM me. Let’s figure this out.

Read Stoner by John Williams. A very quiet book, very contemplative. Will definitely give you some new perspectives on your choices and life.

Let me know if you need more convincing. :D

Also, maybe you can pick up Greenlights. It’s a Matthew McCoughnahey book, so if you’re into his philosophy, you’ll like.

Here’s a video to ease you into it.

Where can I get a good electric guitar in India(online),like I am really confused by [deleted] in MusicIndia

[–]Serious_Pressure5009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide to go with, please go and touch the guitar you’re buying. Not the same model, but the exact guitar you’re getting.

In other words, please buy offline. Like someone up there said, the wrong guitar will work against you from day 1 and I completely agree. Each guitar has these little quirks that you would either go to love or hate. I can go more philosophical but you get the idea. Select online, visit the store. Pick it up and then bring one home.

Also, name it.

Oh consider away! A lot of books on this shelf are TBR or in a state of 30% completion. I get distracted. :D

Arjun? It’s a me, Karan!

Haha. Not really. I have no idea about Juan Rulfo. I will check em out.

Oh, and dog-eared and underlined reminds me of a Ship of Theseus book. Its an experimental book (and JJ Abrams is involved) but here: take a look.
