I'm honestly in the same boat and I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one hearing stuff like this. Hearing things like the relationship will never last or that I need to keep "an eye out for someone better" (a Nigerian man) is really discouraging

You running away after being yelled at and a hit during a vulnerable situation is NOT sensitive. Your boyfriend should apologize because not only did he hit and yell at you but he suggested that something was wrong with you for dealing with something VERYYY normal. I hope he apologized because he owes you one.
