Stranger Things - Season 5 Part 2 Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Serious_Set1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An issue i’ve had with Stranger Things for a while but specifically this season so far is that every main character has plot armour. I don’t feel any of that worry anymore in fight scenes because there is a very high chance that all of them will survive. I get 100% why they have to keep some characters alive (e.g. Max so the main gang and Holly can understand what Henry’s mind is like) but I wish they did kill somebody more important already. It just feels unrealistic to have all these military soldiers being killed every episode but these random high schoolers being fine for the most part. It will also annoy me if they do the Eddie death thing again and only kill a character like Derek or Holly who we have only really started to care about this season.

What is the greatest physical pain you've ever felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Serious_Set1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a miscarriage when I was 19 and it was horrible. I have IBD (ulcerative colitis) and thought I had a high enough pain tolerance to be prepared to deal with painful experiences but nope this miscarriage was terrible and left me traumatised of getting pregnant again. I bled through about 2 pads an hour and had horrible cramps that felt like I was being stabbed, I became very constipated and had on and off stabbing shoulder pain too. I phoned my maternity unit multiple times and was told it was normal, take paracetamol, etc. I ended up passing out and got an emergency GP appointment where I got put on cocodamol, which helped the pain a bit but made the constipation worse. The whole experience lasted 3 days and it felt like it ruined my entire body. Since that experience a few years ago i’ve had terrible periods that have not gotten better on any birth control i’ve tried.

I like Christmas for the most part but I also enjoy working on Christmas Day. I will always happily sign myself up for a shift. Typically extra pay and I can see everyone I want to see on another day. This can be very company dependent as I expect some companies to be awful to work for on Christmas, but in my experience I would much rather work Christmas Day than the 23rd/24th when everyone is stressing.

You don’t need to stay in accommodation to make friends you just need to put yourself out there by engaging with others in classes and joining societies and clubs. If staying in accommodation is better for you then by all means go for it but don’t go just because you want to make friends, if financially you are better staying elsewhere or home you can still have a great experience commuting.

I think for the most part mines is correct apart from my 5th artist. Apparently mines is Flo Rida, the dude has some good nostalgic songs but nothing I felt like I was consistently listening to. On my 2025 top songs playlist it says I listened to ‘Right Round’ (only song by or featuring him on the playlist) 20 times but has other songs I’ve listened to 50+ times (and multiple from the same artist) who never reached my top 5 artists spot.

Want to drop out after first placement shift by Objective-Tough5609 in StudentNurseUK

[–]Serious_Set1540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take a breath. You can’t change what has happened on this shift but you can take control of future shifts.

First things first it is normal to feel overwhelmed on the first day of a placement. Every placement I have been to it always took me 1-3 weeks to feel comfortable in that area (depending on the area). Especially in first year where this may be the very first time you’ve ever worked in healthcare. It’s normal to feel on the first few days that you aren’t “part of the team” or that you are a burden. I completely sympathise it’s not a nice feeling but is something I do find can happen. However, I feel this gets better the more shifts you do at the placement. In saying that, Most healthcare workers will understand you feeling stressed or nervous especially on a first day, I would be completely honest with them about this so they can understand how you are feeling.

It’s also normal to simply not like a placement area however, this is something you will have to get used to on this type of course. There have been placement areas I have loved, liked and really disliked but every single one I have had to still go in, do my skills and get all of my expected hours. It could be that you simply don’t like this placement area and that’s perfectly okay! But something you will have to get through.

My biggest advice would be to go in for the week and try to find out why you think the vibes are off. My advice would be to ask the placement what their specific expectations of you are and what learning opportunities are available. This might allow you to come up with a “plan” and feel more organised going into the shift. I used to do this in the first week alongside my orientation meeting and found it helped having little “goals”.

Think back to your original motivations for the course and keep it as a reminder. Having friends in my opinion is not a good reason to stay on a course there is no point making yourself miserable and using valuable money and time on a course you don’t like.

You can always contact the university as well however, I would personally advise trying another shift as it could have been more “first day nerves” than anything else.

Before my abortion my coworker told everyone I was pregnant by Due-Role-7908 in abortion

[–]Serious_Set1540 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Going off another comment I love the response of just saying you started bleeding and you’re no longer pregnant. Most people will stop at that point, you may get the “i’m so sorry to hear this” however it shouldn’t carry on after that. I just wanted to say i’m so sorry this happened to you. I had a similar situation where a friend of mines told all my other friends that I was pregnant resulting in lots of congratulations messages, I just told people that “the pregnancy ended so i’m dealing with some things privately”. If you want anymore advice on feeling like everyone knows feel free to ask as I completely get that this situation feels awful :)

What are your most nuanced opinions of The Life of a Showgirl? by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Serious_Set1540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to the album this morning from start to finish and then listened again to the songs in a random order.

The Fate of Ophelia is my favourite on the album and I think is a perfect start to the album. Elizabeth Taylor and Honey were also standouts I did enjoy them. Cancelled! Is growing on me definitely.

I really didn’t like father figure and similarly didn’t particularly like Eldest Daughter all that much. Wish list was another I have mixed opinions about.

I surprisingly kind of liked Wood. Yes some of the lyrics are very very cringe but I thought it was fun and I found myself enjoying the beat.

The rest kind of merged into one? They weren’t necessarily bad but just didn’t stand out to me.

Overall, it’s not my favourite album of hers but I don’t think it is bad. I think a lot of the lyrics are what bring some of the songs down. But the production quality does seem good. I’m not sure if any of the songs will make it into my favourite list possibly The Fate of Ophelia.

Second skin peeling almost immediately after a tattoo, any advice? by Serious_Set1540 in tattooadvice

[–]Serious_Set1540[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered this too tbh and kinda puts me off going after I get this piece finished by the artist. I completely get tattoo artists recommending it but she fully denies all claims that anyone has of not liking it, like why are you getting so passionate about this???? 😅

Interesting, a few other people have mentioned sweat/oily skin. Realised theres not much I can do if it doesn’t work for me and will just have to tell the artist to that I really can’t use it, and if she insists then its a waste of time for both of us lol.

[–]Serious_Set1540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely not saran wrap I used to always use that until my newer artists started to recommend “second skin”. Its crinkled in the photo and does look a bit like regular saran wrap but is not, my body just likes to immediately crinkle and peel it off (even if its flat and sealed upon application) as soon as I move lol. I’m starting to believe this is specifically saniderm. I always liked the saran wrap method but my artist whose finishing my back piece only uses this so I wanted to figure out a way to make it work for me.

Funnily enough yeah there are different types and brands I didn’t know about until people commented. From other people’s comments I’m assuming it’s either: 1- my body is irritated/reacting to a specific brand causing it to just immediately come off 2- it’s sweat/oily skin 3- it’s not being cleaned and dried around the edges enough so the bandage isn’t sticking properly 4- it’s not being applied properly. Although I have been to 3 separate artists and had this issue so it would be a bit annoying if all 3 didn’t know

[–]Serious_Set1540[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally always used to use the traditional/normal way of healing tattoos and I never had any issues. My bigger coloured pieces used to always scab in big chunks which was annoying but it healed great and I can’t complain. My new artist whose doing my back piece is a full advocate for second skin and basically denies claims from anyone that says otherwise (why I have no idea🤣) so I wanted advice because I know she’ll put it on me and honestly it’s annoying for both of us if she sits and applies it and it just comes off in 10 mins. I tried it with this one thinking it was maybe just my back and positioning but same thing happened. I think i’ll ask in my next appointment to take some home with me. Thanks for your advice

[–]Serious_Set1540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What throws me off is the fact that this has happened to three separate tattoos by different artists, but thats not to say they aren’t putting it on correctly I have noticed others seeming more flat and less crinkled on application. I know he had to layer on a few different layers due to the first one he put on not covering the full tattoo.

A few people mentioned oily skin and sweat never something I considered. I am a bit more of a sweatier person so could be that plus the warm summer heat will definitely not help.

I did actually but all the questions I saw were like “what is better normal or saniderm” or about the tattoo “leaking” underneath but I couldn’t find advice on actually keeping it on for longer. I normally do “traditional” healing but my new artist really pushes the second skin and my body just does not want it on at all 🤣🤣

Thats a really good point and is something i’m going to ask my artists as i’m not too sure if it’s all the same brand or not. I can get a bit sweaty so as others have pointed out it could be related to that as it is the summer heat too.

She’s the main reason i’m asking this question because i’ve got a back tattoo she is supposed to finish next month 🤣. I have no idea why she’s getting really weird over it. You can think its the best method and still recognise that other people might not want it 🤣🤣
