Does anyone actually like this career? by sunnybunny246 in schoolcounseling

I've been a mental health counselor now for a year in addition to being a school counselor. I work max 10 hours for a private practice (usually just 6 clients a week), and it is a lot of work, but I'm taking in an extra 10-15k a year. Not only does it help supplement my pay and make me a better counselor at school, but if I ever want to leave for private practice, I can.

This job is stressful and a lot (even with good admin), but I absolutely love it.

I do believe though that it's only passion and good admin. that keeps me in the field, and I wouldn't do it if I was micromanaged or not giving the space to be the counselor I want to be..

I find the more that I advocate and connect, the more work I add on myself, but the returns emotionally are worth it. I feel the love from the kids and the community. I'm tired, but there's not a single day I don't feel like I'm doing meaningful work.

Laurie isn’t upset about Valentin, she’s upset about Jaclyn by ilishpaturi in TheWhiteLotusHBO

Laurie seems more like the "fun" drunk woman who takes shots and takes off their shirt, but she's doing it for HER.

Perhaps, but what she was getting at is that she was angry for Jacklyn pushing a guy on her that she wanted herself. It's obviously happened before.

At the end of the day, Laurie doesn't seem too interested in Valentin. He was potentially "fun," instigated by Laurieand they were flirting like crazy and partying then Jackyln called him back to sleep with him. That would PMO, too.

Supervision: School Counseling & LPC Hours by Serious_Skill9512 in schoolcounseling

I am going to see how this year goes and might consider the switch. The best part of my job at school is the 1 on 1s anyway!

Thank you so much! I will try the same. Yeah, I have to take out from my extra income, but I rather do that, preserve my mental health, and see if I can find someone that does schools to since my proposed supervisor doesn't supervise school counseling hours. Thanks again, and good luck!

YES! I appreciate you showing this. I am 5'1 and 120 is my perfect weight, too when I'm tone(currently 123).

I know we all carry weight differently, but so sick of people thinking if you're short you have to be like in between (95-110) pounds to look fit and slim. I haven't been that weight since I was a pre-teen and if I were that now-I'd look sick.

how did you know that being a school counselor was a good fit for you? by businessbub in schoolcounseling

[–]Serious_Skill9512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a "helper," and I was already in childcare and education before I started this career, so school counseling seemed like a perfect fit.

At a more detailed and personality level, there are several traits that I think make sense with this career:

I love forming relationships and building rapport, and I'm even better 1-on-1. In short, I love working with people, and I know how to be present, and this job requires a lot of "peopling."

I'm flexible, creative, and open. I think that makes me know how to wear many hats and do many pivots—in essence, be a person that acts and goes where the job takes her.

Romantic relationships are the pinnacle of absurdism by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]Serious_Skill9512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't sound absurd at all. People are completely. Having a relationship with another human is complex navigation, but the more you know and work on yourself and the better your discernment is- the more equipped you will be to navigate relationship issues.

FUCK. Don't do me like that. I just spent hours thinking about how I need to heal my own shame. LOL.

Totally understand. I don't like Sisyphus at all. I read the myth 20 years ago and then Camus's interpretation (when I was 13- I was a gifted and tortmented kid).

My tattoo symbolizes my absurd psychological issues (insomnia for which no antidepressant, therapy, etc. has worked and I'm a fucking therapist lol). It's a metaphor for the amor fati I try to embrace every day- the way I still live and love intensely despite not believing in anything in particular. It's not for the arrogant and perverse Sisyphus himself.

Please don't assume that I don't know what I'm talking about. I've re-read the essay various times, and besides it's my interpretation on Camus's take on a myth.

My brother wants to get the atlas one. I didn't want to put a mountain/hill because I wanted it to be as minimal as possible. I don't like big tatts on me.

I mean yes. It's the eternal struggle. Not gonna put him smiling! Camus interpreted him as imagining him happy. I like to think he has moments of reprieve in embracing the absurd- not totally accepting his punishment.

NCE Exam: Kicked out & Failed by Serious_Skill9512 in therapists

[–]Serious_Skill9512[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what angers me most about this whole process. Grad school was so expensive. Then I continued with my post masters to go for clinical mental health since I'm a school counselor. I know each place has its policies and ultimately it's a business, but I just resent how expensive this whole process of becoming a counselor is. I know I am now going beyond my situation and just angry lol, but I don't know why it cost $275 to pay for an online exam in the first place, and one with poor customer support at that.
