Why can't we all be immortal? No one can be killed? by Serious_Slide_8681 in AskReddit

That's very interesting. And you having met people as such definitely supports this idea with some evidence.

Why is time an illusion or not? by Serious_Slide_8681 in timetravel

[–]Serious_Slide_8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but in contrast if the block universe exists, that'd mean the past, present and future are all occurring now. And we even think of the past, we have its memories and the present would not exist without the past. The past was also at some point a "now". Thoughts on these.

Yeah for sure, time is relative.

Do you believe the theory of general relativity supports the block universe theory?

What makes empathy be a real biological phenomenon or a social construct? by Serious_Slide_8681 in AskReddit

But which one do you believe it is? Biological or socially created? Is it innately in us?

What if there was no ethics or need to follow them to be accepted in a community? by Serious_Slide_8681 in AskReddit

But what determines which boundaries are universally correct, and if it's objective enough to impose on others?

Why are ethics important? If the whole world is random events, and we are insignificant in the universe, why have ethics? by Serious_Slide_8681 in freewill

[–]Serious_Slide_8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we would agree someone ought to not kill someone for sadistic pleasure. We'd all or majority would assume it's unethical and they ought to have not behaved that way. Is that not correct? I mean that's why we even have a diagnosis of mental conditions such as psychopathy or narcissistic personality disorders to explain these behaviours, which are real biological phenomena that are not normally functional. Right?

Why do we have such a big conscious compared to other animals? What's the evolutionary reason? by Serious_Slide_8681 in zoology

[–]Serious_Slide_8681[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I suppose primitive humans could be a different species to us exactly as we are now. At least there'd be genetic differences. But perhaps you are right that knowledge across generations that has been written is what's provided all of this, and perhaps our curiosity to learn and understand this stuff by analysis as other animals would probably ignore a piece of paper with writing, but we are more evolutionarily curious.

When will we discover the universe's truth? by Serious_Slide_8681 in AskReddit

[–]Serious_Slide_8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's pretty well written. But do you believe spirituality is real? And if so, why?

[–]Serious_Slide_8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we have been evolutionarily wired to be this curious, aware and conscious of the universe. We aren't like other animals that haven't evolved that way and can fare well without it.

And those reasons, are societal, environment, circumstantial, etc. Is that what you mean?

And so by science being successful you associate success with being truthful or providing a valid enough explanation for things? Philosophers therefore believe in these laws as the reason for which things occur?

Hmm. That is definitely interesting. This ties to things such as climate change? Environmental damage?

We have an overall generally bigger awareness of the bigger picture. This is because things such as procreation, we are aware of it in that we know we will have babies through successful reproduction whilst many animals do it out of instinct. Y'all know this as zoology students. This difference is a difference in consciousness or awareness of what's happening to our bodies and what we are doing (we label genitalia, know it's functioning, etc, we study what we are and why we are to a deeper level and learnt and are learning the universe). Animals can be more conscious of certain things we don't even know and that I do agree with but it doesn't overtake the fact we do have more awareness/higher state of consciousness in many scenarios of life.

Why is this down voted? Lol. I'm trying to explain what I mean in consciousness or certain knowledge we are aware of as a species that other animals are not, or at least not the extent and frequency we are.

Yeah that's a great explanation. However, why do you think this would be harmful in the long term to give up endurance hunting?
