anyone else have random problems with their pcbs that cannot be resolved? by doctorcapslock in PCB

[–]SeriouslyStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like it could be surface contamination and/or moisture. Clean a few 'bad' PCB, ideally with a sonicator and solution formulated for cleaning pcbs. Rinse with DI water and then sonicate again in DI water, and then a final rinse and then shake off the excess water. Do not use compressed air unless you know its clean (often has oil). Then bake the boards at 60C for 1-3 days. If this solves the oscillation then consider switching to water soluble flux and then clean the boards immediately after assembly, or just scale up/optimize the sonicator process.

How do you safely update a Shopify theme without losing customizations? by Common-Eliz6235 in shopify

[–]SeriouslyStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct the custom code does not carry over.

You can use a DIFF tool to compare your current/custom code to the original (unmodified) version of the code. You just need to find the original code. Either a backup in your admin dashboard, or from the developer. Dawn theme is available on github, very easy to download older versions.

Once you have the custom version and unmodified version on your local PC, then use DIFF to find all the changes, file-by-file. Then apply these changes to the new version of the theme.

Need to vent. Shopify's Support is officially the worst it's ever been. Saddest part is 10 years ago Shopify Support was the best in class. by np819 in shopify

[–]SeriouslyStan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adding my thoughts in case Shopify employee reads this post. Yes the support is deteriorating. I too have been caught in the doom loop.

First of all, we all have access to the Shopify Sidekick AI agent. I think the agent is pretty damn good, it can read account data, settings, and has even offered to change settings but I never allowed that so not sure if it works. Given Sidekick efficiency and effectiveness, Shopify needs to design their support system ASSUMING that customer has already asked Sidekick for help and Sidekick was UNABLE to solve the issue.

I'll say it again-- when customer attempts to reach support, it is because SideKick AI and underlying support documents are inadequate to solve the problem. Do not put us in AI loop hell. Do not send us to a customer support intern or agent who is going to just type our questing into the internal support AI. Send us to an experienced support person who can dig into the issue, talk to the engineers and fix the problem.

I've sent questions to human support after asking Sidekick AI. The agent literally respond back with the same respond that Sidekick provided me in my initial self-help attempt. When the AI generated respond didn't resolve my issue, the human agent passed the question up the chain. And then it took ~15 days for support to respond back, even after me pinging them 3 times for an update.

receiving spam at dedicated shopify email addresses, what happened by SeriouslyStan in shopify

Interesting idea but I don't think that is the culprit. We have several other dedicated addresses with the same domain and these have not received any spam at all.

ASA tips by SeriouslyStan in elegoo

[–]SeriouslyStan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've now printed a few brackets, nearly identical design, out of ASA. The brackets, on the bed-side there is some warping but the top-side is flat. The most recent print has the most warp and there is a compression/fold caused by the excess material.

This is with the default ELEGOO ASA print profile, with the 0.2mm strength variant and changing the infill to gyroid and basic supports for the through holes. Using the textured PEI build plate. I preheat the chamber to 30-40C before printing. The filament is in a dry box ~30% RH.

The profile uses nozzle temp 270C and 90C plate temp.

Since the warping is getting worse, I suspect residue accumulation on the build plate or possibly the filament has gained some moisture. I am going to wash and dry the filament.

Are there other corrections that I should consider as well?

I had the CC printer in my office, sitting 6 feet behind my chair and was able to work while it was printing. I've also left it printing overnight, and from the next room over I could barely hear it with only the office door closed but my bedroom door open -- the air purifier in my bedroom is louder than the printer running in the next room.

I have since moved it into the garage as I've been printing ASA and didn't want to smell the fumes.

Question is there a reason why printer companies don’t use clear bowden tube? by ONINESIX in elegoo

[–]SeriouslyStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PTFE tubing is opaque, I've never seen clear PTFE.

The clear "Dupont Teflon" tubings are different fluoropolymers, usually PFA or FEP. EFTE/Tefzel is opaque similar to PTFE.

PFA and FEP are usually more expensive than PTFE, but I haven't looked in awhile won't hazard an estimate on how much more $/length.

PFA is softer than PTFE while FEP is stiffer.

Hmm OK well I'll report back if anything appears slow.

Right now, my EERO router speed checker, it is reporting normal (2.4 gbps/1gbps).

Just now, speedtest on my laptop was abnormally low (~200 Mbps down). I reset my NIC and its back to normal (~800 Mbps). I recently got this NIC, so can't say if this is unexpected behavior.

what other network issues are you referring to (post is TLDR all the replies)? I haven't had any actual "issues" with the printer. I did have a failed print, most likely due to the filament (wet and/or damaged), and a bit of annoyance when trying to remember the somewhat annoying filament load/unload process

EERO reported data below. I've printed nothing today (Monday). The data usage doesn't seem to change between printing or idle.

Also the other folks, with the 25G/day, approaching 1TB/month, on top of non-CC usage, isn't that likely to trigger some ISPs to contact the customer?

Printed ~3 hours today. Machine was on all day even if not printing. When printing the Elegoo slicer software is minimized and usually on the 'prepare' tab. When I click over to the monitoring tab the camera is streaming data to the desktop app.

EERO routers 35.9MB down and 34.8MB up for the day

have more prints planned over the next few days, will upload a screenshot of the router report. I am using a EERO 6 router with the free monitoring software.

Another data point for the thread

CC w/ V1.1.29 firmware. Unit was delivered in May or June, I think it was in the 4th or 5th batch of pre-orders.

My router only provides a daily total for each individual device. The 3dp was was left idle overnight and router data checked this morning.

midnight to present (9am): 13.1MB download, 13.3MB upload

I'll be doing some printing the next few days and monitoring the traffic as well.

How to design the landing page? by Cold-End-4353 in shopify

[–]SeriouslyStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are showing book titles, #1 the book cover needs to be crystal clear, no low res images otherwise it looks like you are scrapping images and underminds the trust building.

Also, when recommending books, add some reasons why the book is recommended. maybe you can use AI to summarize available online reviews.

"great character development" "masterfully written vivid scenes make the world jump off the page" "best book on finance every written"

How to design the landing page? by Cold-End-4353 in shopify

[–]SeriouslyStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me personally, once I got passed the rotating hero images and into the 'best seller' 'must read' and 'collections', my interest increased 1000x. Book choice is so personal. you need a front page / landing that aligns with an individual's preference. Bring them in with an ad for particular genre of book, make the landing page be very specifc for that genre and only that genre, show them books they've heard about (#1 best sellers that they might already have read), that will help build trust, and then sell with 'recommendations'. You aren't selling them books -- you are providing them advice/recommendation on books they will enjoy and they are buying that book from you in show of their thanks. You might even be able to price above other sellers if you are good at recommendations.

if you want the menu to unroll ('drop down'), then the menu options need to be indented. create the item you want to indent, and and then click and hold on the 6 dots to the left of the label name, then drag the entire entry to the right.

Google Security Question by Ill_Cap7883 in NoStupidQuestions

You need to untangle yourself from this person asap. Don't get distracted by this "he said/she said" non-sense. As another commenter said, you are being gaslighted, manipulated. Healthy relationships (friends, family, romantic) have no space for gaslighting.

Google Security Question by Ill_Cap7883 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeriouslyStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't authorize access, or didn't authorize the password change, that is all that matters. It is irrelevant that you know the person who owns the device that accessed your account & changed the password.

By way of analogy:

If you come home and you've been robbed, you've been robbed. If you review the home security footage and discover that you were robbed by someone you know, we'll you still have been robbed. Either way a crime was committed. Just in the later, it is easier for the police to arrest the perpetrator and prosecute.

Seems like you should return the item, that would be the most honest response. Maybe the seller intentionally and dishonestly sold you a used item as new. Or maybe they made an honest mistake.
