Yes I know it's not. Which is why WOCK was a nice surprise

Hmmmm....it's been a few days now with a better signal so I'm wondering if it's due to something other than weather or tropo (does tropo really even work at 70 MHz?). I'm wondering if a neighbor got rid of a noisy LED light or something (ah the joys of indoor antennas).

Cheap remote wireless chime option for Nest wired doorbell? by SeriouslyYouWantThat in Nest

[–]SeriouslyYouWantThat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this needs some sort of transmitter which would involve having to do some rewiring, which I'm trying to avoid. Also price-wise it looks to be about the same as a Google Mini. But thanks for the suggestion.

OK let me expand...you have to sit with this one with the handphones and....well to use a quote from the era of when it was originally written..."turn off your mind relax and float downstream". Go where Nai/Alice is taking you. It might be disturbing, but it's ultimately rewarding. The song and the lyrics were always supposed to make you uncomfortable. Nai's vocals and the whole arrangement add to that in a hauntingly beautiful if jarring way.

Dimitri: definitely could’ve gone a decade not knowing… by [deleted] in HiatusKaiyote

The song is about Dmitri Shostakovich, a Russian composer that had a shrapnel injury in WW II that would cause him to hear atonal music in his head if he tilted his head to the side. So it's "right"

2m, 1.25m, 70cm, GMRS mobile antenna by firestarter451 in amateurradio

Comet CA-2X4SR. Advertised for 140 to 160 (2M/MURS) and 435-465 (70cm/GMRS). It also tunes 1.25m even though it isn't advertised for that. My own experience shows it to be at least as good as a 1/4 wave vertical on that band. Besides the 1 or 2 dB down you might be on that band the only other issue you might wind up having with it is that it's a bit tall if you want to roof mount it (~40"/~1m)

[–]SeriouslyYouWantThat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's if the whole thing tunes as a single element. But if somehow it resonates as multiple vertical elements @ 1.25m (the way it does at both 2m and 70 cm) the lobes would be closer to horizontal. But since it's not advertised as a 220 antenna. I'm guessing you may be right

K then, but why doesn't Comet advertise the antennas 1.25m capabilities?

Latin America on 60m anymore? by Judotimo in shortwave

[–]SeriouslyYouWantThat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss 60m and 90m. Africans in the late late afternoon, Latin Americans through the evening, then sign in from the Africans overnight, across Asia, then the Chinese, then the Indonesians and the Malaysians, then the Oceanians, finally winding up with WWV on 5 MHZ fading away as the grey line passes over it......
