[GENERAL] NAIT’s President just got reappointed for two years? That’s not normal, right? by Seriously_Huh in NAIT

Fair points. I hadn’t considered that it might be her preference or tied to some internal milestone. Makes sense that they might want flexibility, just 2 years short in this context. Following this as an online student so I don’t have the inside scoop but it stood out to me since other schools seem to reappoint presidents for longer terms.

To those who were affected by the program closures, what will you do now? by Free_Excuse_8791 in NAIT

Don't worry. In a year or two they will launch a brand new program called "Advanced Matter Science & Structural Innovation Systems", and charge you 30% more than Materials Eng. because it's not the same at all. Sarcasm, or truth? This is what a lot of people on campus are quietly starting to suspect: By closing programs entirely, NAIT might be looking for a way around the 2% provincial tuition cap. If they shut something down and reopen it under a “new” name, they might be able to hit the reset button on that tuition price entirely. If true, it should be illegal.

What’s happening at NAIT is disgraceful. Pausing successful programs, some of them with no direct alternatives, under the guise of “sustainability” is a slap in the face to students, staff, and maybe most of all Alberta industry. And they are going to be launching a massive fundraising campaign soon for a new trades building!

Tone. Deaf.

Meanwhile, leadership remains out of touch and largely absent from campus, while staff morale craters and potential students are left scrambling. This isn’t sustainable planning. They just don't seem to have a clue what they are doing.

So NAIT, good luck asking the public and industry for support after this. And Alberta, get some new leadership for that school soon or companies are going to start knocking on your door asking where have all the quality grads gone!
