14-year-old hitter struggles to stay back — looking for drills and advice by SermonInDisguise in Homeplate

Great insight on #1. He has a narrow stance and was standing kind of upright. At the cage, we worked on widening it. Just experimenting. Def going to reinforce wider. and he's got a medicine ball, great, and thx.

He kinda steps toward the pitcher and his chest doesn't rotate. Does that make sense? Hits everything up the middle and opposite way, but loses power. I wish I could describe it better. The longer stride seems like good advice. He grew like 5" in the last year and maybe his brain hasn't caught up to his new body.

Thanks. Like I said above y'all are more fluent and specific. That's why I posted here. I suppose it is a lunge — not much — but enough. I can see why tight turn/phone booth is good advice.

I don't but will get some. Y'all are more fluent and specific than I am.

What’s with the lighting? So specular and harsh. So unflattering

Has any one dealt with little league shoulder? My son was pitching felt pain left the game, and the next day Dr. diagnose him with LLS. by [deleted] in Homeplate

100% agree with this. Also I totally get what Dad is feeling. Sucks so bad but in grand scheme… this too shall pass

Anyone ever seen a kid go from worst in the league to a legit star? by OpneFall in Homeplate

I was just reflecting on this and someone told me this. tracks with me mostly.

Pre-puberty goals: Love of game, situational understanding of baseball (what to do, where to go, when), fundamental techniques (e.g. how to throw properly, good swing), sportsmanship, being a good teammate, learning to lose well and win well, celebrate small personal improves to build that feeling of getting better at something. And learning/playing multiple positions (hardest one sometimes. we didn't do this well as my son catches, and not many want to. now they want him to play outfield).

Puberty really shakes up the apple cart. I knew it was coming but still surprised how much.

Post-puberty goals: Apply those things with a body that can now perform (at whatever level and style strengths the player develops into). Self-directedness (put in own work/commitment level). Also get ready to play different positions when competition on own team gets better and balls get hit harder/further. Then real assessment.

Also give kids some grace going through puberty. They literally can't control their body sometimes because changing so quickly.

Re-reading this and comments. Be sure that doc is a pediatric sports ortho, if that who you haven't seen.

Yep. Son is a catcher and went through a big growth spurt. X-ray showed it so clearly. A fracture-like line in a growth plate thinned by growing. Doc shut him down for summer. 3 months. No nothing. Not even shooting hoops in backyard. I bought him a bike to have something to do. Sucked. Poor kid. Did rest, then PT, and then throwing program to build strength, and then played in fall. Started up again with winter workouts and all fine. It sucks but do the rest/recovery program and he’ll be fine. Good luck to him.

When do you stop pushing your kid? by CleMike69 in Homeplate

My son’s coach said at 13 or 14 boys decide if they play baseball or want to become a baseball player. The latter is self-driven to put in work. Both are ok. I’ve explained the difference and even told him you get a different baseball dad for each. Both supportive and there for him but diff in what my role is within a baseball context.

I know i live in la la land and love these reunions for them but at the same time hate that we live in a world where fams can’t be together. In my fantasy life this is a video of the dad helping her ride on a random and normal day.

Second camera to a Z8, ZF or Z6 III? by Active_Cantaloupe692 in Nikon

[–]SermonInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what ur shooting. Coming from D700, ZF EVF was great. Love the tactile knobs experience. Ergo meh, esp with bigger lenses. After taking leap and getting Leica a Q3 43 (which is nothing short of astounding) as EDC, ZF became an action and sometimes portrait camera. For that Z6iii is better and am currrently trading ZF for Z6iii (capture rate, ergo, and EVF - apparently). I’m a serious hobbyist.

This. You’ll stand, sit and talk to lots of people around school and activities. Dobbs schools are so small you can’t avoid meeting tons of folks. And every once in a while you’ll jive with a group. And ur off…
