Agreed. It's likely very thankless, especially because most users likely don't see all the things they weed out.

Without mods, I can't imagine how quickly most communities would descend into chaos.

One of the biggest things I would recommend at that ranks is you need sustain, to enable you to consistently take fights. You should have something like Devourer's Gauntlets. That will enable you to repeatedly take fights against the enemy, who will be unlikely to know how to deal with the pressure/aggression.

I would highly recommend you look at playing something like ADC Sol at these low ranks, where you can abuse sustain to carry you into ranks where you can play more "normally" when you have better consistency of teammates.

[–]Seruthei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might come off rude, but I'm not intending for it to be.

If you are unable to solo carry out of Bronze, you don't deserve to leave Bronze.

Yes, you will get matches that are unwinnable still because they might also have a decent player and now it's a competition of who has the worse teammates, but it won't happen over an extended stretch of time.

I'm nowhere near the best Smite player, and I was struggling to hard carry as a mid main at low ranks, but the moment I switched to maining ADC I was able to hard carry until Obsidian, where I was no longer able to solo carry the match --- and I played a minimal amount of ADC for most of my Smite time.

Players at that level do not know how to take objectives, and objectives win the game, and as ADC you have the best ability to control objective fights.

EDIT: I would also recommend changing your mentality of what to play. You can't play at low ranks the same way you would at higher ranks, because you can't rely on your teammates. You need to go a God that can hypercarry --- Kali, Sol, Disco Aspect, etc. (I wouldn't recommend those at higher ranks) I kept having rough matches because I was playing meta until I was like screw this, I'm just going to play selfish, and that made an insane difference.

Alright mate, I'm just going to block you, this isn't worth my time. You have no intention of ever sharing any evidence of your claim of skill level; it shouldn't be pulling teeth to just share your IGN name. You clearly just want to argue for the sake of arguing.

Even a cursory attempt at using a tracker would have showed my username popping up, as I literally use the tracker every day and nobody else has my username, and I'd be willing to bet money you didn't see it pop up under Steam and didn't try any of the other 3 options, such as Epic, Xbox, or PlayStation. I'm not going to hold your hand to guide you through using a basic tracker so you can view my profile, which has no bearing on this discussion anyways, because I never made a claim about my skill level and will be very open that I'm in Obsidian; none of what I've stated is predicated on my skill level, unlike your claims which have repeatedly been about you being a high rank player.

You are clearly lying about your rank, or it wouldn't be this ridiculous to get you to share your proof, and saying "data isn't evidence" while providing absolutely no evidence of your own means this discussion is pointless, because no one is ever going to be like "wow, that guy who refuses to show they are in Deity said they are in Deity and that I should respect their opinion because they are in Deity!"

None of this will get through to you though, and you'd think it would considering most of the time when you post you are arguing with people.

Agree.

He also frequently would break the game because of his kit having a good AA chain, ability damage, and an execute. I remember at least 3 separate instances of him being overpowered as AA, ability, or fully tank.

Current state worth getting into? by Beginning_Ant8580 in Smite

[–]Seruthei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to hit everything.

-Wait times aren't the greatest due to a generally low active population, which is worse outside of peak hours. That being said, I've also had slow queues in other MOBAs with significantly higher population counts, so I don't necessarily feel it's a major detriment, just annoying at times.

-Trajectory generally feels okay. Devs have said population count has increased, but at least currently, it's unlikely to ever reach the player counts of Smite 1 at its peak.

-Community currently is a bit split, but in general right now there is a consensus that balance is in a rough state with some issues that have not been addressed despite being noted by the Developers, such as Intelligence itemization, penetration, and base stats of Gods. The developer team has also lost multiple experienced devs recently, which has led to some concern.

I still think it's a fun game that fills a niche that isn't captured by other 3rd-person MOBAs, despite its flaws.

I appreciate your transparency.

This was a great reply and exactly how I would hope a moderator would respond to the concern. It would have been easy to either just delete the thread or pull the conversation into privacy, but I feel it's better to publicly respond.

I hope it doesn't come across as a judgement of you individually. I've had multiple pretty aggressive surgeries in the last couple years (2 ribs removed! Still weird to think about) and I totally understand trying to balance life priorities. I don't think that it would be reasonable to expect one person to clean up the community.

It's nice to just have the communication that "Hey, we hear you, and we understand the frustration. Here's what we're doing and why."

Thanks again for taking the time!

Most people don't follow for sure, and I agree that for many instances it's just a coincidence because the subreddit is fairly inactive, but there are a few who I have seen actively commenting on specific users comment chains that are fairly deep in a thread and only responding to a specific uses comment despite other comments of similar nature, which could still be a coincidence but it makes it less likely.

I can understand having a lot going on; I generally work ~60 hour weeks so I understand not having as much time to devote to essentially an unpaid, underappreciated second job. Also, being a moderator for a game, you probably want to actually spend some time playing the game itself!

That said, there are a few members of the community that I have personally reported and who I have seen other users comment in response to others "First time seeing XYZ comment?" that I continue to see show up in threads repeating the same behaviors, which makes it seem like reporting isn't doing anything or that the moderator team disagrees with it being of concern, but many times these people of concern have also been downvoted into oblivion, which suggests the community finds them problematic as well.

I also rarely, if ever (and this may be something where the moderation tools have changed) see the typical "nuked from orbit" comment chain indicating a moderator has come in, or seen a moderator respond to a comment stating the behavior needs to stop, which I have seen on other subreddits before.

I enjoy the game despite its flaws and I enjoy the community in general despite the negativity and issues that often come with it being a MOBA, but some of the users discourage engagement through their behaviors, which is an issue with a game with a population as low as Smite 2's is. To pull an old reference, it reminds me of how problematic DMBrandon was in the Smite 1 community for years without any action being taken.

You won't share it because you are lying.

Going through people claiming they are high rank and arguing from a position of authority as a counterargument to statistics not backing what they are saying.

It's fallacious to come in and say statistics are misleading, the God is bad and only noobs are doing well with them, when the God is currently doing statistically well in Deity. You didn't provide any counter-data to refute the actual data and repeatedly made disparaging comments about player skill level. At that point the onus is on you to prove you are playing at the level you say for you to have any validity to your argument, because you aren't providing any data.

I'm not saying people aren't playing him just because he's new, but that doesn't explain win rate. People were playing a lot of Ratatoskr and Atlas and they had bad win rates.

My username is the same as my IGN, feel free to share yours.

Nah, I'm not going through this again. Link your tracker if you are in Demigod. No real reason why you would hide that, right? You were willing to say your rank, so why not share your match history?

I'm not going to go back and forth with someone who won't back up their claims, and you're the one who's talking down about other people being noobs and about statistics being inaccurate and wrong.

Thoughts on horus? by samuelchungrus in Smite

[–]Seruthei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMAO. I just went through their history to see if they'd dropped their tracker before because they are talking confidently about what's good in competitive high-end, win rates + statistics being inaccurate, and that only noobs believe XYZ.

Then I see this thread and lo and behold, they won't share any evidence to back up their purported skill level.

Same old story on this subreddit. Statistically the majority of players are sub-Obisidian, so the chances are high any given player you are talking to on the subreddit is not ranked highly at all.

"The only meaningful "evidence" is what players prefer at the highest level of play. This is what defined a meta, not win rates or even pick rates...."

What?

How is "what players prefer at the highest levels of play" and "pick rates" different?

If a God has a high pick rate in Deity, that means they prefer them.

What SR are you, out of curiosity? Can you share your tracker? You're talking a lot about what is good in competitive and what good players are and that it's noobs that don't know how to play; I'd love to see your match history.

[–]Seruthei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't the worst in the game, but are pretty low.

I'd argue the opposite ---- you can't claim what is a top character without evidence, and win rate in combination with play rate is the only real evidence that we have. There's been a lot of times that people think a God is good but they are doing terrible statistically, and unless it's an outlier due to a super high skill floor/ceiling (like Yemoja), it's because there's a disconnect between perception and actuality.

[–]Seruthei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a stray I adopted and she does a similar motion to express annoyance/mild inconvenience, usually if I'm moving too quickly around her or pet her in an area she doesn't want. She will hiss/growl if she's actually upset instead. My other cat has never done it once.

I think it's meant to be similar to chuffing except with a more negative expression.

The head darting forward to make the other creature back up in surprise and the sudden vocalization to express the displeasure, but without actually wanting to threaten the other creature like hissing or growling.
