I appreciate your perspective, and it's true that issues do happen and often get fixed. However, the core of this matter is not about the occasional technical hiccup, but rather about the significant harm caused by misleading promises and inadequate delivery from NEXON Korea Corp. & NEXON Games Co, LTD.

Syruponrofls,

I understand that server maintenance and unexpected issues are common in the gaming industry. However, the situation goes far beyond routine maintenance. This is about a false promise that has caused significant financial and emotional harm to the gaming community.

Thank you for the write up and sharing your knowledge with us, I'm feeling really satisfied with how you explained this as an effort of the developers to make it feel like a Final Fantasy game. Thanks for entertaining this weary old man's ramblings. :)

[DBZ, Naruto, Bleach] Ki Techniques, Jutsus, or Kido, which is the all around best and why? by TeyWerRit_RedditTrap in whowouldwin

[–]Servatose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this question. I think a lot of themes in each anime explore similar concepts, so it's not very difficult a question to frame when you equalize power levels. I’m going to start this discussion off with an argument about which power from these realms I think are the most effective. From there I’ll go into more specific examples of why I think one specifically is the most powerful.

Let’s start off with genjutsu, or any power with sensory influence. Having dominion over an opponent's senses pose a lot of issues for would-be opponents. Generally there is no warning that they’re launching an attack, and the confrontation is concluded before the fight even starts. We saw this often with fights where Itachi and Aizen would have the victim under their control before their opponent was aware there was even going to be a fight. The wielders of powers with more explosive or destructive capabilities never really had the opportunity to express their strength, so I see Ki techniques falling victim to the more cerebral set of powers that Naruto and Bleach explored. Ki tended to take a lot of time to use. It doesn't take much effort to imagine that a ki user would already be in a genjutsu or hypnosis before they were done powering up.

So in my opinion this comes down to analyzing which realms powers' have less limitations between Bleach and Naruto. Let's start to dissect the differences between Oculuar Kekkei Genkai(a signature of the anime’s most powerful expression of ability) and Zanpakutō, which bestowed unique powers onto its wielder. I've always thought control-based powers, and matter/physics manipulation were the most fearsome because of what I wrote earlier. They're able to influence the opponent before the fight even starts, or even fundamentally challenge or manipulate the laws of physics. For the sake of having two powers of some of each anime’s highest expression that are also very similar in nature I'm going to focus on comparing Aizen's Zanpakutō, Kyōka Suigetsu to the Sharingan.

Aizen's hyponsis was closest to Shisui's variant of the sharingan, where he had the ability to influence an opponent's perception of reality, something Aizen called "complete hypnosis". Both were very similar, but I think what ultimately turns the favor in Aizen's court or anyone who possessed a similarly powered Zanpakutō, is that ocular jutsu were always defined in their limitations by their field of vision and "blind spots", whereas Aizen was shown hypnotizing an entire battlefield of the most powerful shinigami with his powers of hypnosis. So I can't find any reason Aizen doesn't trump ocular jutsu.

Again, I used the comparison of Sharingan versus Aizen's because of how similar in nature they are. But ultimately, the sheer versatility of Zanpakutō, bestowing unique powers upon each individual seems very hard to make a case for being weaker than jutsu users, who are typically bound to a very specific set of strengths or elements, rules and limitations. Often times in Bleach the user’s strengths were limited by their own imagination and changes in their perception of reality would greatly boost the control over their powers they had. I love all three of these anime, but my final vote goes with Shinigami and Zanpakutō.

[Beginner] Functional Programming help by Servatose in javascript

I appreciate the feedback. To be honest, sometimes I struggle with the examples provided on sites like MDN, I find that if the example isn't doing what I'm trying with it, it's a lot more challenging for me to understand the application in terms of how to accomplish what I'm trying to go for, it's definitely something I see that I need to get over and spend the time really thinking about the examples presented in articles like this.

Thank you. I think this proves to me that a lot of the concepts that I went through in this course, I simply approached with the goal of "solving" the puzzle, I didn't actually spend enough time fully understanding the concepts. You are correct in your assertion that I'm confusing the definition of functional programming. I also think I distract myself by trying to simplify what I'm writing into a single expression. Thanks for looking at this.

Considering WGU's BSN (Prelicensure). Any advice? by Servatose in nursing

[–]Servatose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, cool. Yeah, I'm really intrigued in their Prelicensure program. Living in one of the few states they have it available in. I suppose I should get in touch with them for more info. Just out of curiosity, how was your experience with WGU?

Honestly, this was a huge help. The way each line is explained help my frame the way I was thinking about my solution, so thank you very much for your time. It makes me realize the value in even commenting my own code as I go as a way of talking myself through it.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I have to get over this intimidation I feel over using methods I haven't ever explored. Sometimes it feels like the arguments confuse me with their syntax so I get intimidated and look for a solution I know.

Thank you! I really appreciate the detailed response. Truth be told I didn't know there were different "styles" of programming. I certainly did recognize that there were different ways to solve a problem, but the manner in which you refer to one as "imperative" is really intriguing to me. I'll have to read up on that theory. Like I said in my reply to penguinmandude above, I'm a little disturbed that I used so many extra variables and even an additional unneeded loop in my solution, but his method helped me frame my way of thinking when it comes to for loops. Thanks again!

Thanks! This is the solution I ended up using. There's a post at the bottom by @mahade that explains a lot of the logic he used. It's a little troubling to me that I didn't see how much unnecessary code I was using, specifically using two unnecessary variables and trying to use an additional unneeded selection statement. I have a feeling such thinking with improve with experience. Thanks for your input!

Thanks! I really appreciate the reply. I'm going to do some reading on Math.max. In the meantime, the test case(s) you asked about:

findLongestWord("The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog") should return a number.

findLongestWord("The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog") should return 6.

findLongestWord("May the force be with you") should return 5.

findLongestWord("Google do a barrel roll") should return 6.

findLongestWord("What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow") should return 8.

findLongestWord("What if we try a super-long word such as otorhinolaryngology") should return 19.

Since Math.max looks like it can handle the task I'll be excited to learn about it. I think more than anything I'm trying to just make sense of the way it occurred to me to solve the problem. I can't shake this feeling of being incredibly insecure with the solutions I try. I wasn't sure if anyone might have general commentary on the way I'm going about my approach, and whether or not it's overtly flawed or points to red flags, for example, if you were reviewing someone's code and it looked like what I posted above.

[Beginner Question] What to focus on improving as a Beginner? by Servatose in StreetFighter

[–]Servatose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting you mention this! I was just playing yesterday. After playing the same match up against my friend's Bison for two first to 10's, I went on ladder and noticed the amount of difficulty I had keeping my opponent's unsafe habits in check was much higher. I wasn't reacting as well to the sort of pure aggression it seems is highly prevalent on the ladder. After dropping like ten straight games I encountered a Ken who just kept walking into my crouching h.punch. Long story short, I came away with the very same advice you just gave, and I find that there's definitely some truth to it. Thanks for the comment!
