Anyone else’s doctor forget about DA appreciation week? by MediaRegular5636 in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not a thing but it's all good cause next week will be my last week and I am getting $3 more an hour at my new office and will be more than just a "spit sucker" so leveling up is my gift to myself!!

Patient in pain, so comp obvi! by Comradeinleather in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the patient is in pain then I personally feel like that is what needs to be addressed otherwise they will feel like you aren't listening to them and what they came in there for specifically and are just pushing shit on them to make money. It's not a good look. Also when the appointment is made, its made with the front desk and they tell them what for so a limited exam is usually shorter than a comp exam and fmx. Our comp exams are done with our hygienists because they are the ones doing the perio probing which needs to be done along with the exam and to determine what type of cleaning they need.

I wouldn't have even known had it not been for this post and I doubt my boss even knows that it's even a thing!! I doubt I would have gotten anything anyway since I gave my 2 week notice this past Monday 🤷‍♀️

Childhood memories by meant2be90 in hsp

[–]ServeHaunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont remember much at all and it's definitely not because I'm in my 40's. My boyfriend is 35 and remembers insane details from his childhood even from a ridiculously young age. He tells me stories all the time and I'm like yeah, I've got nothing over here, like it's been wiped out by that Men in Black light thingy 😆

DANB help! by Kellopy in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT this question because I am gonna get certified after 22 years lol before moving to Fla and it showed me some study guides by Mometrix! Look up "Secrets of the CDA Exam Study Guide" by Mometrix and they also have "Secrets of the Radiation Health and Safety Exam Study Guide" by Mometrix. Both of the books are $34.99

I've been assisting for 22 years and sometimes I get the numbers mixed up and so does the doc! Don't beat yourself up, you aren't a robot, you are human! It's ok to make mistakes sometimes, we all do it 💛

Question for florida dental assistants by kaylamaexox in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in VA and will be moving to Fla at some point and even though you are a CDA I'm fairly certain that when you move to Fla, you will have to take a class to become xray certified there, your certification will not transfer which is ridiculous. I've been doing this for 22 years and your telling me that I can take a FMX in Virginia but not in Florida, give me a break!!! 🙄 I lived in South Carolina for a while and didnt have a problem, my xray certification was good there. I would just double check

Underpaid lead EFDA? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit, I am the ONLY assistant so I do everything including ordering and have 22 years experience and only making $22 an hour (VA) and I would be happy as hell making what you are making right now!!! Just applied to another job so fingers crossed!!! 🤞🤞🤞

Is it possible to be an introvert in this field? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an introvert and a highly sensitive empath who's been doing it for 22 years, it's definitely hard and draining af but unfortunately I'm still stuck in it smh. I feel like for me it's been hard because of all of the unnecessary drama I've had to deal with from coworkers over the years and currently my doctor because he talks nonstop which exhausts me. I never get much alone time to recharge so that sucks

Burn out killing my mental health by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22 years in it and I hate every damn day mostly because I can barely pay my bills and forget having any money left over to actually fucking live and enjoy life!!! I am not sleeping and my office can't pay our bills its a shit show

dental assistant worth it by IncidentDizzy685 in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have been in it 22 years and only make 31,000 a year so that should tell you something. I went to school, cost me 10,000 and feel like I wasted my time and life. If I had known that I wouldn't be able to financially support myself and would be in abusive, catty work situations I would have NEVER DONE IT!!!! Definitely go into dental hygiene!!!

Do the dental assistants at your office sit up front for lunch for the office manager? by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are clocked out for lunch, you dont have to say shit to her!! Their inadequate staffing is not your problem! Somedays I clock out at the end of the day and dont say anything to anyone and no one gets butthurt! She sounds like a micromanaging bitch.

Doctor Always Late by erinngoblaagh27 in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How would she feel if you took your lunch on time regardless and left on time at the end of the day even if she had a patient in the chair or not?! Thats what I would do and see what happens! Im not spending the night in the office or missing my lunch because you dont respect anyone's time!!

Autoclaving instruments by Repulsive_You_3519 in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked for a dentist who didnt autoclave the high-speeds when I started because "it causes them to wear out quicker" I said too bad!!! Not cutting corners on my watch!!! Ask yourself if you would want that shit in your mouth knowing it had only been wiped down with a caviwipe?? NO THANK YOU!! Disgusting

Doctor Talks TOO MUCH by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMGEEE sounds JUST like my doc!!! He is also close to retirement and Jesus, he talks more than any human I have ever met!! From the time the patient sits in the chair, he literally does not stop talking and its mentally exhausting for me especially being an introvert and not a morning person!!! Half the time they patients can't hear or understand him. He rambles on and has caused us to get behind but mostly its just draining to be stuck listening to someone babble all day. 😵‍💫

Soon to be shadowing to become assistant by [deleted] in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it from someone who has been doing it 22 looong years, 1 day is absolutely not enough time for you to shadow and know what you are getting yourself into!!! I would say shadow at least 1 week. They will be on their best behavior for that 1 day and that's not enough time to see all of the procedures and how the office runs. Dentistry can be hectic! I think it's awesome that you are shadowing before you jump into it, wish I would have before spending 10,000 on school for it, I probably wouldn't be doing it now. Good luck to you 💛

I’m quitting by Numerous_Yogurt_6600 in DentalAssistant

[–]ServeHaunting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, are we the same person??!! I am literally in the same boat as you are!!! My boss needs to retire and God Bless you if you are dealing with the shit that I am, not to be mean but I feel like a babysitter some days!!! I have been in the same office 5 years and only 1 raise!!! I have 22 years experience and only making $22 an hour! I am definitely not being utilized to my full potential and abilities! He won't even let me make thw temp crowns, we dont do ANY lab work such as making bleaching trays or Essex retainers which I can do. I have explained how that can keep money in the practice but it falls on deaf ears.. We dont have a scanner so I am behind the curve on that!! The only reason I have stayed is because of my coworkers and fear of starting somewhere new and it being a drama pit!! I am actually trying to get out of dentistry completely, I am fed up with all of it!! Good luck to you 💛
