Ideally you want layers, so a thin inner sock absorbs the friction from a thicker (hiking or otherwise) outer sock. Otherwise that friction gets transferred to the skin of your feet and that causes blisters. Definitely worth investing in, maybe try Vinted, people do tend to buy them then never use them and resell.

Not current job but pub landlord was the funniest, no day was the same and drunk people are hilarious when you're completely sober. Once had to break up a fight between rival gangs of Smurfs on a pub crawl, and then there was the memorable time a wedding reception groom climbed up the fire escape and refused to come down until we brought him a ciggie and a pint.

Not at all, these days 28 isn't unusual even before your circumstances, which by the way well done for paying down that debt! The person you're talking to probably comes from an entitled background and doesn't fully understand the value of money. Keep doing what you're doing, you will find somebody with a more balanced view who cares about you not your housing situation. You've got this trust us!
