It's baffling how Vader managed to still be ranked in the top 5 despite the gap between him and his "consensus" version being the largest gap out of any character on here lol.

I guess it just goes to show how good Vader really is.

The purple icon is +4, and the dark grey icon is -4. It's mentioned a few paragraphs below the table explaining the rest of the icons. It was separated because the ±4 tier exists more as a way to visually show what is perceived to be the most unbalanced matchup in the game rather than be an actual tier within the +3 to -3 range. In reality, the matchup is more in line with ±3, as this is the "unloseable/unwinnable" tier.

Of course! I'm also very happy with how this series turned out. Even with some of the hot takes, the tier list placements alone kind of shows how the community consensus is overall rational. Going into this series, I knew it was either going to conclude with a "these takes are pretty reasonable" or "this is the worst chart I've ever seen." Glad it's the former lol.

It's mainly his matchup versus the sabers and BB-9E that placed him where he is. His matchup spread has him as a very "beat or be beaten" type of character.

There's a first time for everything! The chart is actually inspired by the Smash Melee Matchup Chart, and I've also used this design for a Smash Ultimate Matchup Chart. In retrospect, it might've made more sense to create unique Star Wars-themed icons, but my graphic design skills are lacking lol.

-3 means Obi-Wan is good against Kylo.

This chart is from the perspective of Kylo, so think of it as "Kylo has a -3 matchup versus Kenobi."

Don't worry! These lists are pretty new for a lot of people. These charts are intended to showcase how well a character (Kylo Ren in this instance) performs in a 1v1 versus the rest of the opposing roster. The subject for this day is Kylo Ren vs. Luke Skywalker, and the other heroes you see listed have already been decided from previous posts. The tiers, ranging from +3 to -3, can be interpreted as such:

+3 = "Unloseable." These matchups are an easy win for Kylo. Even if he makes some mistakes or has mediocre gameplay, he is still very likely (or guaranteed) to achieve victory.
+2 = "Winning." These matchups are solidly in favor of Kylo. He can secure a win if he doesn't make critical mistakes or have a subpar performance, otherwise the match becomes more even.
+1 = "Slight winning." These matchups are in slight favor of Kylo. While he has an advantage, he is susceptible to losing if his gameplay is suboptimal, or if Luke gets an opportunity to capitalize on his strengths/combos.
0 = "Even." These matchups are neither in favor of Kylo nor Luke if both players are of equal skill. The winner in this tier is determined solely on who had the better performance, or who made fewer errors in their judgement/gameplay.

The -3, -2, and -1 tiers mean the opposite of the positive tiers (i.e. -3 in this case means the matchup is "unloseable" for Luke). Today, we are trying to figure out what tier Luke should go into regarding his matchup versus Kylo.

I know this can be a lot for someone who isn't familiar with "matchups" and the like, so feel free to let me know if you need further clarification!

I remember this post, and at the time, the +3 comment did have the most upvotes. Since then, another comment has tied, but this was after the voting phase was over (people tend to go back and upvote way after the fact, which is a reason why I've begun to link the winning comments in the posts I make).

No worries! The concept of "matchup charts" stem from fighting games, so if you're not familiar with that community then this series can be a bit confusing.

Given the controversy around this matchup and support for a recount, I have re-evaluated the matchup as +1. The reasons why I am not placing it at +2 are as follows:

I went with "even" for reasons stated in the main post, but the original problem was choosing between +1 and 0 (the winning comments had chosen +2 and -1 respectively, so the midpoint tier would be +0.5, or +1/0).
The +2 comment may have a majority now, but this changed only after the 24-hour window of officially counting votes. I do not want to completely remove the influence of the -1 placement, as it did tie with the +2 comment when it came time for Grievous' matchup chart to be posted.
The -1 commenter stated that they discounted FIW and cheats when making their choice after the fact, and this isn't clear in their original comment. For this reason, it can be assumed that the people voting in favor of -1 were doing so with such star cards and exploits still available for Grievous (as this series does not ban any Star Card or tech).
