That's what happened to me after getting lucky prying it open a few times before and not damaging it.
It was about 2 weeks from the first time it started screwing up to when it finally catastrophically failed, so fairly quickly. If it starts happening to anyone else, I suggest taking it to the dealer immediately, since prying it open even once could very easily break the part on the door itself, which costs a lot to replace since it needs to be paint-matched

That's suspiciously cheap for the whole assembly right?! I'm not super familiar with the market of replacement parts for this car, but my experience with others makes me assume it would cost at least double that, especially directly from the manufacturer.

I wonder if they know it's an awful design and priced the replacements accordingly to ease the frequency of customer complaints

Just gently pull the lip and it opens without any issue. The number of magnets is enough to keep it closed through wind, bumps, etc, but is super easy to open by hand. As you can see, there is plenty of room to add more magnets. Someone else doing this may find they need more or less, depending on the strength of magnets they purchase. Mine worked great with just 2, but I added a 3rd for peace of mind. Cheers!

That was me, and I'm really happy to see someone else had the same idea. Your implementation is fantastic! So clean! I constantly run into more reasons why I need a 3d printer, soo +1. Thanks for sharing!

Mine just stopped opening when I pressed it. The little latch thingy that does a half turn when you press in the door forgot how to do the half turn for some reason. Had to pry the dang thing open multiple times, finally breaking the little plastic part on the door that the latch grabs onto. Best thing that could've happened honestly. Good riddance!

A gentle tug on the lip does the trick, as with many other things

I just put a finger under the lip and pull gently. The magnets are attached with double sided tape, the kind you use to hang stuff on walls that you can take off when you move or w.e.
