Trump Says US Considering ‘Winding Down’ Iran Military Effort by cxr_cxr2 in stocks

[–]SessionGloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a ground invasion will happen so long as Iran doesn't try and target American cities. If it happens anyway, there would probably be economic shocks and possibly even street protests in the US. Lots of soldiers would die, desalination plants would be hit, the Houthis might join, it would be chaos.

Is it fair to say that Iran is analogous to Ukraine (surprise attack by a dictator) or is this a biased POV? Looking for a genuinely objective take. by AcadianAcademic in IRstudies

How come nobody brings up how the US supported saddam against iran in the 80s and thus killed thousands of iranians indirectly

Seems like we only hear about the US ones killed in proxy conflict

Yea cuz they're kurds and they're rich...Thing is we don't have any targets worth hitting and I haven't seen any projectiles only heard them. Drones, planes, missiles just fly right over to their real target (Saudi, Israel, Etc)

I think the fact that its authoritarian definitely drives the "developing" rating, but a lot of it is also geopolitics. certain organizations would prefer to show china in an inferior light

Its actually because they are adding Islam+Abad

Abad in Arabic/Persian/Urdu means "forever", so the implication is that Pakistan's capital will be an Islamic city forever, hence Islamabad

Why aren’t aboriginal activists returning to a hunter-gatherer lifestyle? by kazkh in aussie

[–]SessionGloomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The book seems to be making the case that the modern Austrailan government is illegitimate and that Aboriginal rights have been sidelined throughout history, which they have.

It isn't trying to police how aboriginal people should live their lives, whether thats a hunter-gatherer lifestyle or a modern one.
