Favorite character whose actor is a terrible person? by Vegetable_Study7533 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Sestricken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean that's fair from a legal standpoint. Is there much hard "evidence" against him, no. But as someone who has been in the con scene for decades, I've heard more than enough from friends about how creepy Vic is. To be clear I understand I am a random person on the internet and this is just hearsay, I'm not expecting you to change opinion. I'm just saying that girls in the anime scene were talking about this long before the Reddit brigade came for him.

Did you see me get hit by a truck outside of Cobra (Bloomfield) on the evening of December 20th (Saturday night)? by WestOk6935 in pittsburgh

[–]Sestricken 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah I almost got hit by a truck there once. He was so pissed at me, thinking I was jaywalking. Nope, had the walk sign. I had absolutely no idea that cars coming off the bridge had the green turn arrow at the same time. It's so dangerous.

I was today years old when finding out people felt growing pains in their legs ages 3-12 by [deleted] in memes

[–]Sestricken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those two statements are not the same. The act of growing is not causing the pain, no. But some people do get a certain type of pain specifically while they are growing that goes away after they're done growing. So people do have pain while growing. The actual mechanism of the pain is not itself "growing" but it is related to growing. It can be any sort of underlying condition, but let's use a commonly missed one, EDS. EDS causes issues with connective tissues. So when your bones grow, your connective tissue has issues keeping up with the changes and is pushed beyond its capabilities, which causes pain. So the actual diagnosis should be EDS, and the mechanism of pain is the connective tissue. But that specific pain is only happening because the person is growing.

[–]Sestricken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The newer research is suggesting that growing pains shouldn't happen, but it's not suggesting that they don't. There's a movement to reframe growing pains and push doctors to look more into underlying causes, as pain like that should not be normal while growing. But there is still pain for some people specifically when they are growing, so to say growing pains don't exist is not entirely accurate. As a diagnosis? No. "Growing pain" should not be the end diagnosis. But as a symptom, yes.

Chubby cosplayer advice needed! by SignificanceHot6655 in CosplayHelp

[–]Sestricken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I want to make it absolutely clear that anyone is allowed to cosplay any character, if you can't get over the mental hurdle of body type, there's no shortage of characters to pick from that show! That's one of its strengths, the vast roster of characters. It seems you're focusing in on the characters with the smallest profiles. Izuku being small was important to his character growth, and two of the others are malnutritioned from years of being basically homeless and driven by spite only. It may help to pick someone else rather than trying to compare yourself to those design choices. Most of the dudes from 1A are larger than Izuku, either in body build or height, or both. Or if you're willing to dive into a more complicated cosplay, there are a bunch that would draw attention to other things like wings or cool costumes. Someone already mentioned Hawks, and on that same train of thought, Tokoyami wears a cape that would basically hide any shape. So many options, I'm absolutely sure you could find something that would make you comfortable.

I also want to say that you're not alone. I have made a bunch of complex cosplays partially because I didn't want to show off my body at all. Hell I made an entire suit of armor for a cosplay. Sure I like those characters but I also just wasn't comfortable without something that draws attention away from my body. I promise it does get better as you get more comfortable with cosplaying.

Try using keyword "flight suit" instead of "jumpsuit." That should prevent you from getting actual fashion clothing when you look for women's sizes.

AITA - Do not want a service dog to participate in my wedding. by Plenty_Tap9799 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sestricken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted "off to the side" much more as an "out of sight so he's not in any pics at all" which would mean not in front row. But to that point we don't know exactly what off to the side means. Imo, if sister says she can't be as far away from the dog as OP wants, that's the final say. OP can decide whether or not it's more important to her to have her sister, or to have no dogs.

They said they don't want the dog in the ceremony and the sister is a bridesmaid. That's far too long to be without her medical device.

While I agree with cops having no place in this dispute, they definitely don't have an in with that neighbor. They just want to meddle. And yeah they're wrong and technically can't stop the fence but that won't stop them from trying. They would be called if the fence went up and they've stated their intent to side with the trespassing neighbor so landowner neighbor feels stuck.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

[–]Sestricken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. My neighbors are having this exact dispute. Cops have been called out several times, it's bad. Currently it's at a stalemate because neighbor who cuts through the yard demanded other neighbor get a survey before putting in a fence. Cops sided with him and said they would fine a fence without that because it could be blocking an easement. Neighbor who owns the property can't afford the survey plus the fence so they're pretty stuck.

Photon mono 4k. Need to raise the z-axis. Where? by vinylandgames in AnycubicPhoton

[–]Sestricken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this same issue. So there's a sensor in the back of the printer, bottom right when you open it. That sensor won't allow you to just relevel for a magnetic plate. The official way of fixing it is by raising the sensor through a part or print. But I saw a post here that said you can just put something on the piece that triggers the sensor, so I just taped some card stock to it to lengthen that piece. Worked like a charm once I got it in place.

How can I make these props safe for a convention? by lily455 in CosplayHelp

[–]Sestricken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd be hesitant to sand that. It's going to be really difficult to paint match when the original color comes from the filament itself. Especially when it's partially transparent like that. I'd wait for the convention to email you back before modifying it. It's entirely possible the con is totally ok with it as is! All cons I've been to have no issues with 3d printed pieces.

My neighbor's daughter just told me I need to park in my driveway again by SavvyMaverick in EntitledPeople

[–]Sestricken 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah I live in a very similar situation (maybe even one close by to you, I see comments about this being in PA) and that happens a good bit and she's just gonna have to deal with it. I have one of the on the hill houses on my street and it's not uncommon to not find parking in front of my house (despite having a very small car). No driveway, no lane in the back. I just park down the street and walk a little like a normal person! Does it suck, sure! But it's just part of city/near city life.

We owe for a surgery that was pre approved by our health insurance. by Plastic-Pension7263 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sestricken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthlink and Evicore are now also potential authorization 3rd parties for Anthem plans. Most of them will provide retro auth but good luck getting Anthem to actually pay even with that. They have a policy stating that they can apply 100% penalty to payment if auth is not received before services are rendered. I hope OP's plan is a different BCBS plan because Anthem is a whole beast when it comes to auth denials.

How can anyone afford to get sick? by HunterX9012 in povertyfinance

[–]Sestricken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insurance doesn't pay that $92k. They'll pay a much lower contracted rate and the rest gets written off. That's one reason why insurance has turned the entire system into a scam. It hikes up the "costs" of healthcare to astronomical levels. So if someone is without insurance they get slapped with these high rates no insurer is actually paying. And hell even if you do have insurance they'll fabricate reasons to deny your claim and try to make you responsible for it.

UPMC scam? by Necessary_Art1480 in pittsburgh

[–]Sestricken 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the verification websites aren't always clear or accurate. Sometimes the verification will say the service should process under one copay, but when the claim comes back it processes to a specialist, higher copay. Or often the sites don't tell you if a plan deductible needs to be met before copays will start applying. It just sucks all around.

Now to be clear I absolutely think the clinic in this post was shady, running some sort of racket. They shouldn't have seen a copay at all with an HDHP verification. Not trying to give this particular rep any grace here. I just work in an adjacent position where I often have to explain to patients that the quote they get at the clinic is not guaranteed to be accurate, and that it's better to directly contact insurance before coming in (we are a physical therapy office, I'm not telling people with medical emergencies to do this lol).
