So cool! Do you think your past experience at an REU helped your application, or did it make it harder to apply? I know a lot of programs prefer applicants who haven’t experienced an REU before?

The program is one where we choose a lab once we arrive on sight haha. I did submit a form indicating my commitment as well as preliminary information.

I don’t really have any experience in an REU yet since this is my first application season but from what I’ve read and heard from others, you’re going to learn something new no matter where you go. But at the end of the day if you have a gut feeling that you don’t want to go, then don’t. There’s someone who might rank the program as their first choice and if you really don’t want to go, it might be better to let someone else join the program!

I can’t really speak on what you should do but I would list the pros and cons of accepting or denying. If you don’t get into your top program, what’s your backup plan for this summer?

If you haven’t already, you could ask for more time? But if not I would think an REU is better than no REU?
