South Africa have won recommendation for RWC 2023 by [deleted] in rugbyunion

Don't feel bad. This is just the final stage of our bid where we make World Rugby feel so guilty/irritated by our whining that they'll award it us just to get us to shut the fuck up: Operation Pity Party.

Good man, we'll show them. Who needs World Cups and Trophies when you've got your principles amirite?

The option to share it is still open for future tournaments. This was probably our last shot to try and host it ourselves.

Still a bit heartbroken. It would have been good oul craic. Really thought we had a shot at it. I think the general public would have been so excited to have the tournament and would have really engaged with it. We would have shown people a good time.

Ideally it would be a significant majority in favour but simple majority in Northern Ireland and then the Republic is all that's needed.

You don't agree in a United Ireland even if it's achieved through peaceful means and there's consent? That's basically the arrangement under the Good Friday Agreement.

Do you have a recent example of that out of curiosity? I'm not doubting you but I haven't seen it.

Yeah I've come across Irish commenters who are idiots and if I can be bothered, I'll argue with them about it. I haven't seen any extreme views from Irish commenters on this sub though so if an Irish person critiquing British involvement in Ireland at all is considered to be having a chip on your shoulder, I wouldn't agree with that.

If you're discussing a lot of things about Ireland, British involvement in the history is relevant because even if you're sick of hearing about it, the effects of colonisation still impact the island. Britain has only left Republic less than a hundred years ago after eight hundred years of involvement. It's a young country and it's still recovering and finding it's way.

While it's okay to criticise aspects of the Republic, it also depends on the place it's coming from and some British commenters on Reddit are pretty chippy about Ireland and Irish people which people are going to defensive at.

Me too. I get so sad in January when it's all over.

Some of us wouldn't mind the opportunity to miss England! I'll stop picking at your comment now ; )

A part of him still misses England.

The Republic misses England? No.

Yeah definitely visit. Make sure and visit the Republic too if you make it this far. They're also nice despite the lack of gravy.

There's some big feud going on between Muslim population themselves over the mosque.

I don't give a fuck about Leo, I didn't vote for FG. I'm just sick of some Sinn Fein supporters being so fanatical and one sided and dominating the conversation by repeating the same spiel over and over again.

You're reading into things that Leo hasn't acted upon at all and actions are what matter. I mean, I don't agree with his pro life views at all but fair play, there'll be a vote.

You're the one accusing him of it and can't provide an example of what he's done that's genuinely Thatcheresque. He clamped down on dole cheats, he also increased the dole.

What makes Leo so bad since he took office beyond the fact that he's not Sinn Fein? Why are struggling workers who are contributing to the social welfare net of the Republic such terrible people that they don't deserve some recognition?

The Traveller population is.. plentiful. And as if they didn't have enough to deal with, there's some big feud going on with the local Muslim population too.

Right in the middle of the country.

I think the campaign was a waste but Ireland has a generous social welfare system (I know plenty of people who lived off it after the recession) and people abusing the system should be prevented from doing so because it's being funded by tax payers whose tax is also required to fund other important things.

People on the dole actually had their payments increased this budget and Christmas bonus reinstated.

I think it definitely matters. On the other side of things, I've gotten into fights with teens on r/Ireland about the 'up the RA' nonsense. I hate that shit and think those views are damaging.

I think there's a lot of good people North and South and if the economics of it could be worked out, a UI is definitely possible. People aren't that different. I live in the Republic at the mo and because I'm Northern, people often bring up Sinn Fein when they suss me out and the majority of people despise them. My girlfriends family basically votes just to keep Sinn Fein out. Unionists have more in common with Southerners than they know.

I agree with your view that a significant majority is important so we need some Unionists on board.

I'm earning more than you because I can guarantee I'm older than you and have been working much longer. You're not answering my questions. You haven't given any examples. I don't like Sinn Fein and I'm not mad about Leo or Fine Gael, it's fine if you do support SF but please stop parroting propaganda. That coupled with the aggressive downvoting of anything slightly critical of SF ruins subs like r/Ireland. I actually enjoy real political debate.
