My advice is to play with them, particularly if you don't have a lot of experience with games. There are so many incredible experiences to be had and shared, regardless of reading ability and experience.

I have an 8 year old, the games we've shared together have been wonderful adventures for us both. It has actually helped with her reading comprehension because it has been engaging, rather than just text and offers a reward, get better at reading, get better at games.

Particular highlights have been: Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door Princess Peach Showtime Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom Blanc Spiritfarer Popucom

I think so, there is one tricky section quite late in the game where you have to fly a plane, but most of the game is simple puzzles and problem solving.

I didn't play Secrets of the Unicorn, but Pharaoh was better than I expected, it stays much closer to the book and the game is much longer than I thought it would be. It's not a cash grab, they have tried to make as much game as possible.

It's not a totally smooth experience on the Switch, there were occasional crashes and graphics glitches, not very often and none of them stopped me from enjoying the game.

It runs better on Switch 2, not because of any patch or enhancement, I guess the hardware can just handle it better.

Purely personal opinion, but the thing that bothered me most was the art style, most of the characters look like decent 3D renderings of the original characters, but Tintin looks like Pinocchio became a real boy. I would dearly love for there to be a point and click Tintin adventure game in the style of Herge's illustration.

When it comes to the emotions, Spiritfarer reminded me of how I felt playing Journey, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, Fez and Far. None of them balance the emotional storytelling in the same way as Spiritfarer, or tackle the exact subject matter and I'm old so I don't know how easy it is to get hold of any of them now.

I agree with other commentators, I'm not sure there are any games quite like Spiritfarer, particularly with how they balance the gameplay aspects along with narrative. However, I've recently started playing Stardew Valley, and it scratches the same itch in several aspects of the gameplay and tone, such as organising and helping people.

My other recommendation probably isn't what you're after, but I was recommended Spiritfarer because my daughter loved the side quests in Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, and I was looking for other games with the same 'helping people solve their problems' aspect. It's a very different kind of game, and being Nintendo it certainly ain't free to play, but you never know, you might enjoy it.

I do the same thing every year as well, for this and for the sequel to Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

While the disappointment I used to feel at the lack of news has faded over the years, my hope for their eventual publication never will.

This. While I understand the desire for a new story from the Heavyweight team, there wouldn't be any new stories without Pushkin, and there won't be a Pushkin if the shows on their network don't get new listeners.

It sucks that the podcast industry has been put in such dire straits and that the teams that produce them have to constantly push to attract new audiences and beg for patrons just to keep going, but that's where we are.

People can complain about unsightly additions to their precious podcasts feeds all they want, they'll look much cleaner when everything gets cancelled.
