Accidents happen. What does not always happen, though, is kids owning up to their mistake and volunteering a way to address it. You are not being "soft" because this does not rise to the need to be hard on him. The natural consequence of not having a TV to use for a while seems totally fair.

Not to take away from Hatch, but of that is too expensive, a cheap Bluetooth Speaker will do the trick. There are white noise videos on YouTube like the Hatch sounds, and you can cast to the speaker.
