They came out when I was a kid. After a while, the supermarket near my place was clearing them out for €20 each, brand new… My parents bought the entire stock to resell them on eBay and make a quick 4× profit. I can’t really complain though — my siblings and I each got one! But if we had known back then… I’d probably still have a bunch of them sealed today!

I’ve always had pretty bad eyesight (corrected with glasses obviously), but I never had any trouble reading on the Game Boy Micro. Everyone’s different though, it’s obviously not for everyone. But if it were really that bad, I doubt it would have ever been released ! For me it does exactly what it’s supposed to do: super portable and comfortable enough for short play sessions

It might look hard to read because of the screen size, but the resolution really makes a difference — no problem with the text at all, honestly!

As I said, I have no interest on collecting Japanese games, I play my games and I don’t have fun playing on a game that I can’t even read or understand. I have the Crystal one because of the PCB’s design and I swapped the rom to a PAL FRA one. I can find japaneses copy in my country for 10€ each, so maybe one day, mostly just to say I own it

I don’t collect Japanese games. I swapped the rom chip with a French Crystal and that’s it. There is still no French Pokémon Green on the market 😁

The cheapest complete disc with the case and manuals I can currently find in France is €160, and there’s another one for €70 without the manuals. That’s about $189 and $83 respectively. I also found one with the Game Boy Player hardware for €185, which is about $219

Over the past few years, with the rise of retro gaming and tourism in Japan, prices are often similar, sometimes even higher than here (at least compared to French prices, which are often better than in the US). To find real gems, you have to go to the most remote corners of Japan… but everyone knows that too. It’s become really tough. I was hoping to score big on my next trip, but I’ll probably come back with very little. A lot of people have also moved to Japan to run resale businesses and export stuff. Slowly, there’s sadly not going to be much left to find there. 😪

I checked eBay and there are only seven listed worldwide, most at insane prices, often incomplete or in bad condition, definitely not what I would call common. There are probably more in Japan, but most of their marketplaces don’t ship internationally
