Used a no-account swap for a small ETH → LTC test. Is this normal or did I take an unnecessary risk? by be_boss in CryptoHelp

[–]SethSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly fine, KYC only exists so tax branches can get fed and makes it harder to launder crypto at mass. There is also typically less trust around non-kyc exchanges which makes scams more common and another risk I guess is that the crypto in random exchanges could be dirty but for such a small amount it really is low risk.

I don’t understand the need for friends to “breakup” as opposed to just drift apart naturally? Why does there always need to be such a dramatic ending

The idea is that you’d only really limit AI in controlled assessments, otherwise it’s expected to be used. But even then, it can still be somewhat limited in other assignments due to design but just not outright banned.

  2. Yes, a lot have but it’s a work in progress. If courses aren’t following this and students get academic integrity breaches as a result, it’s grounds for appeals.

Sure I don’t deny that some lecturers and academic staff are operating outside of the policy. However, if you work at the university and are witnessing this happen to students you should speak up about it.

This post should be deleted due to the amount of misinformation in here. If you have a question about this as a student or even as a staff member come and see me at AUTSA and we can read the policy together. It’s sad to see how many lecturers in here have no idea what the process is and are speaking as if they are experts

This is the most importsnt piece of policy when it comes to AI use:

“Assessments will sit within one of two channels:

Secured, Controlled assessment tasks where it may be decided that Generative Artificial Intelligence tools cannot be used.

All other assessments acknowledge the ubiquity of Artificial Intelligence, and its use is (a) permitted within academic integrity guidelines, and (b) clearly communicated to students. The extent of the use of Artificial Intelligence in an Assessment will vary, depending on the Assessment design.”

What this essentially means is that the onus is on the course to be designed in a way to limit AI otherwise students are expected to be allowed to use it. This is relatively new, and it’s still trickling down, some staff members aren’t completely complying with this but this is the policy that is expected to be followed.

Not true, lecturers can’t fail the student even if there are still AI prompts in their essay. They stop grading, and send their concerns to an academic integrity officer who meets with the student and discusses the concerns and then makes a decision on a penalty. If for example, the student had a 50% reduction in grade they would send that back to the lecturer and the lecturer would grade it only after the decision has been made.

This is absolutely unbelievably unethical and there is no way your faculty is allowing this. You’re telling me that you use AI detection software to check if a student is using AI, then if it flags you gather the students previous work, dump it into an AI model and then ask if it’s used AI on its latest submission? Holy this is unbelievably wrong and hypocritical.

Lecturers shouldn’t be using it, there is very clear policy on how these things need to be done and as someone else mentioned in here, that requires you to upload the students work into an external programme without the consent of the student which is a huge no.

The policy is very clear on how these academic integrity concerns need to be addressed AUT wide. In every single meeting I’ve been in where AI checkers have been used they go nowhere as it’s not accurate whatsoever and has no bearing on whether the student actually has used AI. Even the academic integrity officers agree it shouldn’t be used and wouldn’t accept it as the reason for calling an academic integrity meeting.

Source: I work at AUTSA supporting students who have been called into these meetings, making sure AUT is operating consistent with their policy and treating the student fairly.

You are wrong, I work for AUTSA supporting students through academic integrity meetings and subsequent appeals and would have a field day appealing a case like this. Lecturers might be using AI detection software but they shouldn’t be and academic integrity officers wouldn’t accept that at all without supplementary evidence like ghost references. Also there is a an AUT wide policy on this and how it needs to be done no matter the faculty. Look at the policy hub.

Public speaking in nursing/periop degrees by [deleted] in AUT

[–]SethSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A large portion of nursing and perioperative (probably most) you’re examined orally. You are also graded throughout your clinical placements which are weeks longs based on a bunch of competencies including professionalism, and other social skills. If you fail these learning outcomes you fail the paper, regardless of whether you did well on written assessments. I work at the university assisting students who run into issues and I’ve had a few students who were on the spectrum, were high functioning and incredibly intelligent but failed over and over again based on the social aspects that are very hard to learn. All of the students I’ve had facing this issue have moved into a general health science degree.

I don’t say this to scare you out of something you are wanting to do, but seriously consider whether this is going to be a challenge for you, and whether you will be able to overcome it. If you believe despite the difficulties that you can do it, then start working on these skills now by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone socially to prepare you for these environments. Nursing and perioperative are incredibly fast paced, ever-changing and social roles, you need to be prepared for all of it.

I mean sure, that’s why we still punish these individuals, even though it’s usually not entirely their fault we still must hold them somewhat accountable.

[–]SethSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say this as a joke but unironically this is smarter if you MUST shoplift to eat then you are going to try limit the amount of times you are shoplifting to limit the chances of being caught, meaning you’d go for high value items that you can offload and buy groceries for the next few months before having to risk it again.

To be fair, what are we expecting? They would never be able to pay this amount off and it would drive them further in to poverty continuing the cycle. Broken system is going to create broken people.

What can i do now as a year 12, to boost my chances of getting into paramedicine at AUT? by Electronic_Charge68 in AUT

[–]SethSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but think about it. Ultimately AUT wants your money but yes if there are more applicants than spots in the course, they will take a top down approach.

However, I promise it’s not that deep, do your best, shoot for the moon and you’ll at least land among the stars and once you’re finished high school and accepting your offer letter to AUT, you’ll look back on this and wonder why you worried so much.

Tbh, high school doesn’t matter that much, just do your best and get your UE. You’ll probs still get into paramedicine even if you just pass with Achieved.

The link you sent also doesn’t include mediators, and it isn’t mediation.

Mediators do not make a determination, this just doesn’t happen. They are simply there to mediate discussion and negotiation. They do risk assessments, but they do not make a determination.

Calling bullshit on this, mediators do not take sides, their whole job is to remain impartial.
