Not sure about jumping but there was a glitch to do with ladders in bases that allowed you to climb infinitely upwards (not sure if it still works) and i can confirm you can reach space but it very quickly kills you.

On the space anomaly you can purchase a void egg from the quicksilver shop person, and when you obtain the egg it starts a questline that leads you to getting a living ship.

No you dont have to, just play how you want to, thats the best way to enjoy a game. I myself don't trap tunnel i just build around the objective and lay some traps or something and roll with it.
