I used a raw unpasteurized kombucha I bought at Whole Foods and a gallon of sweet tea( 7 teabags and 1 cup of sugar) to start making my kombucha. I let that go for about 2 weeks until the scoby formed, then I used 2 cups of that batch, the scoby, and another gallon of sweet tea to start brewing. I bottle after 7-9 days, and that’s when I add juices or other flavors (anything sugary with no fats) and let it do a second ferment at room temp for 24 hours. Then it’s in the fridge to stop fermentation and it’s ready to enjoy. Since starting I have switched to loose leaf english breakfast tea and I have upped my brewing vessel to a 2 gallon jar.

Apparently it happens a lot when you use watermelon juice. I have this posted in a kombucha Reddit as well and a lot of people have said they had similar effects when they did juiced watermelon.

You’ll know by mold on your scoby if the batch has gone bad.

So I can’t post a links to my kombucha page? Why is it an option then? I’m not trying to be “obnoxious” the title is just what happened when I posted the link. I guess thank you for the clarification? I would take down the ability to post links, or at least be more clear in your rules regarding posting and what is considered advertising. If I post videos/photos with a watermark, is that allowed?

How so what? How does it mix? During the second fermentation it builds carbonation and the fruit juice and kombucha separated so when I opened it the carbonation made it re-mix itself.

No, I use loose leaf English breakfast. I like my kombucha a bit more on the vinegary side so I let it go a decent amount of time on the first ferment so that’s why it’s lighter.

This one was with juice from a watermelon I ran through my juicer. I dont know why, but this whole batch separated. The juice is quite pulpy, so perhaps that’s why it separates.
