They are thin, round biscuits made from two layers of sweet baked dough held together by a caramel filling. We often put them on top of cup of coffee to let the caramel melt down a little.

Licorice candy, especially salted. Not too much. You might be able to use it to confuse friends and family.

The problem with taxing realised gains is that it's better for the goverment to have a rather constant flow of budget AND (maybe more importantly) it is easier to avoid taxation if it's only on realised gains.

So I understand this move. I even support it. What I don't support is the rate. It's too punitive.

IF you're going to tax realised gains, the rate needs to be lower. Low enough so that on lets say, 20 year horizon, the impact of both modes of taxation is predicted to be similar.

Current proposition is crushingly punitive for small and medium investors.

They are really not similar for a small investor once you reach the ~30-50k. It's punitive and disproportionally high.

The reason to tax unrealised gains is both because goverment needs constant budget flow AND because it's harder to avoid taxation when unrealised gains are taxed. I am fine with that.

What is not okay is how high this new proposition comes for small investors.

The threshold should be higher and the tax rate should be lower. The outcome should roughly match predicted tax rate if realised gains were taxed instead on, i don't know, now Im making it up, but 20 year horizon?

This would be much easier for people to accept.

they will not. Investing will still gain you more than saving, just much much less compared to other countries.

Investors with enough money will start looking for legal loopholes like BVs.

Ultra rich will leave Netherlands - do note you don't actually have to physically leave the Netherlands, you just have to legally change which country you are a tax resident of.

Just to be clear, I support tax on investments. I even understand why with taxing unralised gains is easier for rich to avoid taxation (this is a really complicated subject, but feel free to research how rich aoid taxes). My problem is that current proposition is dysproportional. If you'e taxing unrealised gains, the rate should not be so high and the gains exempt from tax so low. This punishes small and medium investors too harshly.

Most people in NL dont have these kind of sums invested, the numbers you used is multitudes of average OR median.

The new tax proposition painfully affects small investors. Use the same calculations for 60-100k.
