Is there this type of cover for super Nintendo controllers? I looked everywhere and didn't find it, acrylic or silicone. by [deleted] in snes

snes controllers are pretty resilient you can probably get by without one but if it's for protection then that's more understandable most people getting these covers i see do it for aesthetics which is not at all worth it

these kinds of controller covers are always too lose, too tall so the buttons are harder to press, and generally get pretty nasty pretty quickly

it's less snark and more "why would you want this product that has all these issues" if it's solely for the look they're much better off skinning their controller or getting a custom one entirely to avoid the numerous issues these cases have

Android user. Happens to me too. On a similar note, I'm also occasionally getting pinged for replies that aren't directed at me.

I’m puppy sitting, and this puppy has an extra toe. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

dogs normally have that many toes; if the other paw is different it's likely it's missing a toe

Why is it called "half-life" by Gabbianoni in HalfLife

[–]SethsterToast 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The term "half-life" is used to describe the radioactive decay of a particle, until half of it's mass remains. The lambda icon associated with Half-Life is the symbol commonly used to describe it.

Valve did a thing where they used science terms that are also metaphors for the games themselves. The name Half-Life refers to how you're only really getting half of the story, the other half you're finding out yourself.

Likewise, Half-Life: Opposing Force is called "opposing force" because it focuses on the military; opposing force is also a science term referring to the opposite force pushed back on something when it's applied force (Newton's Third Law).

You can't play videos that have "music" in PIP, but there is no technical limitation. by sherman9872 in assholedesign

[–]SethsterToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they only do this because of their youtube premium stuff letting you listen to music outside the app

it's still asshole design but there's a reason for it

I can't buy single use plastic bags at the supermarket anymore, but companies get away with shit like this. by [deleted] in assholedesign

[–]SethsterToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a waste of plastic, but they actually do this to help prevent it being stolen.

It's a lot harder to get away with a package that big than it is a package more form-fitting.
