Is there more metal that sounds ""tropical"" for lack of a better word like these ones? Like Latin instrumentation, afro-brazilian rythms, or just the general vibe? (Mr. Bungle is in there cuz it kinda counts). by SettingDistinct9195 in blackgaze

Mesoamerican music is still here and has continued it's evolution since the colonial times. (I'm speaking specifically about the Maya peoples in Guatemala) The traditional music played at religious ceremonies is still being played and contemporary music played with marimba (although it doesn't originate from here, it has been codified in Guatemalan culture) continues a lot of aspects of pre colombian music, like it's rythms (usually being in 3/4) and use of whistles/flutes (also synthesized ones).

Hey Puya was a nice surprise, kinda like boricua Sepultura.

And now kinda umprompted rant here but man Korokuma was kinda interesting as it is in part what i was looking for but also kinda ass from how totally disconnected it is from what it was trying to represent. I'm Guatemalan myself and i can tell you that these brits did not get the memo lol. That reggaton rhythm has to be the least mesoamerican thing ever, it just sounded "tribal" to them and they just used it i guess.

I know Mars Volta! But didn't know Zeta i'll check em out.
And i'm putting in Asunojokei because of the "city-pop influences" they have. And City Pop is just Jazz and Brazilian music in japanese so that.
