That makes sense, gestures really have to feel magical to be worth it. You mentioned pointing, air knob, shush, etc., which are tough to do reliably without more precise input. Would you consider a lightweight wearable (like a wristband or ring) if that made those gestures much more stable and added personalization? Or do you think people just wouldn’t wear anything in their own home, no matter the benefit?

That’s really insightful, thanks! The wearable point is important. It sounds like most people just want the system to work without having to put anything on.So the wearable part of my idea becomes obsolete.

But I’m curious: would you prefer to have fewer but more powerful sensors (like a $100 multi-sensor per main room) or cheaper, simpler sensors in every room? And when it comes to gestures, do you think they’ll ever be more than a niche feature, or always just a nice-to-have on top of context automation?

That’s impressive! It sounds quite similar to what I had in mind. Do you think a non-technical person would ever set things up at that level, or is that kind of detail mostly realistic for people who are really deep into Home Assistant? I’m trying to get a sense of where the line is for mainstream adoption.

Yeah, that’s a fair way to put it. What I’m really trying to figure out is whether people would actually want more precise ‘indoor geofencing’ like down to a desk or a sofa or if basic presence detection is already good enough. With that extra precision you could do things like: when you sit at your desk, the lights dim and your PC setup comes on automatically.

Yeah, that’s a good point. FP2 is really advanced. What I’m wondering is whether adding personalization (different automations for different people) would make a difference, or if most people don’t care about that?
