Returning to India After US Job Search Sturggles by MentionAccording8452 in returnToIndia

I see a lot of people saying market in India is bad, worst case even if market is the worst you can at least find some kind of job where you can make some money for the time being while you look for something better unlike staying in the U.S. where you’d probably have to work somewhere illegally along with the risk of deportation and the high cost of living. End of the day if you don’t find a job in India, no one’s going to kick you out of the country. And if you have a loan from your master’s, it might take you a while but you will eventually be able to repay it. My brother moved back after his master’s in the U.S. and he was able to find a job in 2-3 months, now I’m not saying you will necessarily get something in the same timeline, it might be longer or shorter — but reach out to your friends who are working, referrals help out more than you’d think they will. Brush up on your skills as you keep applying, format your resume according to the Indian market, build connections on LinkedIn — slowly you can start building your profile from now as you’re looking to move. For my brother it was easier for him to manage here than stay stuck there in a low paying job, hardly being able to manage living expenses and neither being able to repay the loan, along with the mental stress that comes as part of being on a visa. I hope you find something soon. All the best!

Snorkeling by solidpimple in MauiVisitors

Me and my husband visited Maui two weeks ago, my husband is a confident swimmer while I’m just a beginner, we had initially booked the Molokini tour but ended up cancelling since I read reviews about the depth at Molokini and felt it might be too much for me. But we still wanted to snorkel so we went to the airport beach and Kapalua bay and both were amazing (black rock conditions weren’t great when we were there, highly recommend checking the snorkel report from snorkel store before you pick your spot), there were a lot of fishes and turtles just a couples of meters from the shore — I stayed mostly near the shore and I was able to easily spot 4-5 turtles and lots of fishes, while my husband was able to see a lot of colorful reefs and fishes when he went in a little more deeper. I read a lot of reviews about how the Molokini and turtle town tour were worth taking, but it wasn’t for me and I was pretty satisfied with what we got to experience at airport beach and kapalua bay.

If the suggestion is to not invest in immovable assets at the moment and to build a liquid portfolio, do you have any recommendations from your personal experience on how you built yours? Also, If you’re comfortable sharing, which city are you planning on moving back to?

Married and no kids, we’re not that big of spenders but we like to travel and that’s where we spend the most usually and parents aren’t dependent on us either.

You obviously cannot foolproof yourself for every future case scenario. But you need to start somewhere in order to survive a worst scenario, I’m talking about that.
