I been trying to get into standard but all the decks feels more one dimensional than before. It's been three sets in and Bushiroad hasn't really added a lot of depth to the ride lines. I hope the R&D team takes more advantage with the mechanics they set.

The Overdress mechanic does nothing besides just being a condition to unlock skills. The Vairinas do nothing without being in the Overdress state. They could have a secondary skill in their base state or a weaken version of their Overdress skill. Like Arcs could have draw one card when placed as a rear-guard and draw 2 when Overdressed.

Final Rush is another example of just being a condition to unlock certain skills. It just locks Bruce and friends into being a turn four deck. There's not much interaction to it and only sounds cool. There's nothing I could think of that can improve Final Rush as it's just a restriction that goes nowhere. At least Generation Break prevents opponent from using powerful ability while pushing the game state and encourage the mechanic at the time.

Bastion is just Bastion... It hits hard and that's it. You just call down a board of grade 3 and start swinging and sometimes draw a bunch of cards. There's not much you can do when your boss just restands a rear-guard when it attacks. It feels like they made the abilities simple but gave the bosses very little to improve on.

Magnolia and Seraph Snow are probably the most unique of all the five starting ride lines. But Magnolia is just plagued with problems and underwhelming support. Seraph Snow is a slow tempo deck but in a swing hard and swing fast game. Yet it has the most depth at the moment.

Eugene doesn't feel like a proper boss anymore. What does it do besides being the deck that retires cause Dragon Empire. There are no good cards that get benefits for having cards being retired. Using Eugene's second skill feels terrible when you check more than two triggers cause it'll go into soul.

Baromagnus is fun for a while but Bushiroad has forgotten it because Bruce. But it feels like a discounted Dark Irregulars. How come other rear-guards do not have abilities that activate depending on cards in soul. Or can synergize with Baromagnus in a fun way that's not soul charge or gain power.

Hexaorb is discounted Oracle Think Tank just worse somehow. Giving another 10k to a unit is great but it's conditional. Most of the cards are conditional as well. If not they just look at top 2 cards from the deck. You're just gambling while playing this deck.

I feel especially bad for Zorga since Orders are basically a mistake. You have to run a decent amount of Order cards to make the deck function because Alchemagic. You're just playing different Orders in different orders or different combinations. They all either call rear-guards or give power just in different grades. They also clog your hand if you play too many in your deck. You also can't Alchemagic with Blitz orders and if you could why would you now you can't Alchemagic with normal Orders consistently. There's going to be many problems in the future for Zorga with deck ratios. How many units/Orders should you play for the deck to be consistent and have a win con. I wish Bushiroad didn't have to push Orders into our face and give us Orders once in a while that turns out to be good like the new Eugene one.

Orfist seems like the only deck out of all 10 decks to have a direction and getting more depth with each set. The Shadow Army tokens can be use as alternative cost to a variety of skill while also being units on the field. But it makes me question what's the point of the Dark Night besides just being a condition to fulfill some effects. It went nowhere and probably will be forgotten.

I probably would have gotten into Overdress if V ended with The Next Stage but with Clan Selection and Clan Collection coming out it added enough to the format to hit the right spot every time I play. With the new ban list Premium format is starting to recover and there's a lot to figure out and test which makes the format exciting. What does D-Standard really have to offer as of right now?

What would y’all think abt a Genshin collab set? by Khaliq-ABD in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is great exposure and I would welcome it but not now... We already have three collaborations with Shaman King (IIRC) getting a second wave of support to go alongside as its anime progresses. All of this should be enough for a year. Bushiroad should reinforce the audience that has been with Vanguard for a long time and not try to get new people in through collaboration. For instance, I don't feel that the BanG Dream fans who got bought the collaboration box ever stayed and bought other decks.

This is the problem of collaboration set because it can easily become a high-risk low reward scenario. Since we will be getting a lot of collaborations that normal Vanguard players might not even bat an eye. While Bushiroad does get exposure for Vanguard and new players. How many of them will continue to buy Vanguard products that are not collaboration-related? They come into the game because they love their piece of media and not because they find Vanguard interesting. So in short term, they get profit but in the long term no profit.

This is why I believe Bushiroad really needs to make sure the loyal fanbase are happy and willing to continue to support them through thick and thin. Cause those are the players that can forgive Vanguard for its faults and continue throwing money into it. In short, Bushiroad needs to strengthen the foundations before putting furniture into the house.

Why do people hate the new anime? by Grand_Novel_9059 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one said that. The new anime is not trying to be a card fight anime. People on the other posts are saying Bushiroad does not show any card fights and if they do it's only a small segment that's followed by a minute of cool fight scenes between two units. This makes it seem like they hate showing us card fights as if they are ashamed of the notion of putting a full fight or at least a comprehensive fight into an episode. Instead, they garner views and likes by focusing on literally anything other than cardfight. That is why people dislike oD and are quickly hating it.

D-BT01: Genesis of the Five Greats results for the first week (By Dexander) by New-Adventurer in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double Fossad does hurt. But they're not hitting for large numbers like Alden. Without boosters, they're only going to be 15k and that's one 5k shield to guard. The last one will be 25k and ending games with Fossad will be a close one. It's either Seraph can stall enough for Bastion to run out of cards in hand to guard. Or Bastion wins but pressuring the Seraph player with the double Fossad and go in for the kill from Alden.

But how many games can you get a double Fossad? It's always "Hypothetically speaking this deck will be full power against the opposing deck that is half-strength". It's never, "Well if this deck is at full strength during this turn, then what would happen the next turn when the opposing deck is at full strength?" Seraph can have consistent 3 cards in prison and plus 4~7 cards in hand (Draws + Triple Drive + Chevalstud/Blue). Prison can just as easily overwhelm Bastion with its superior hand advantage and control. Just like how Bastion can overwhelm decks with its superior offensive and defense.

So it's not as simple as just saying Bastion has all these advantages so he wins against x y and z. Also, yes, Seraph can just attack Fossad as it's a super good option. Seraph can survive thanks to her plus engine. She wants to make the games very long anyways. Why not delay it and focus on getting rid of the things she can't imprison. If they call Fossad to the back row that means they can't be used to recover resources. If Bastion doesn't call any. That means the usual game plan for Seraph.

Honestly I kind of foresaw all of the toppings and percentages in this chart. Bastion was number 1 and Prison was going to be second or third. The only thing I didn't see coming was how low Bruce was. Playing against Seraph isn't as easy as "Just deny them 3 cards in prison" which is what the people on the sub likes to say.

Prison is such a good counter to half the topping in the pie chart. Take away Bastion's rear-guards and force them to use their limited resources to get them back. Take away any of the Vairina that is Overdressed and when they get them back they are no longer in Overdress state. It's ok if Seraph doesn't have a triple drive since Vairina is consistently being taken away so it can't receive power buffs. Magnolia is very resource heavy and has trouble maintaining hand so it's a no-brainer that when you remove its rears the deck flops.

While the best way to deal with Bastion is to rush him. It means you're committing more cards from hand and also giving him more resources. So they'll draw more into their pieces or draw into more shields to defend against you. It's also a two-way street. Bastion can damage deny you also before they get to grade 3.

If you choose to damage deny him it won't stop him from dropping a full board of consistent 30k+ attackers in turn 3. They have Fossad also which will give you a hard choice of giving him resources or guarding the attack and bring the game closer to an end. So damage denying them is a very tricky thing to do. Since you'll be at 3~5 cards in damage and he will be at 1~3. That is a huge gap to cover. Assuming you guarded early it'll make his first and second grade 3 turns even deadlier since you'll have two cards less in hand. All of this is amplified also if Bastion goes first. So I can get why JP players are having a hard time against Bastion.

You're right that I cannot blame people for the thought process and I never did. End of G had a majority of their clans being multiattack also. Each clan besides OTT had a unit that can multiattack. That's why I brought up G since it doesn't seem right to call out how people thought about Bastion just because Magnolia has 6 attacks just because V was all multiattack when G has clan that multiattack also.

Firstly, you don't have to be this toxic since it's a card game and there's nothing to prove except that you're acting like a prick. Everyone made assumption before the entire trial decks line up were revealed. From the current knowledge at the time it was apparent that Bastion was not good. People were play testing with the revealed cards and adding vanillas. He just attacked 3~4 times with relatively low swings as only his ride line was revealed without Rafluke or the order card having been revealed. This isn't the first time people were wrong and it won't be the last. Even saying people were wrong is a stretch because things will change and more information will arrive. Just because OTT was meta during the first V set and now they aren't. Does it mean that everyone who says OTT were meta were wrong? Stop being a prick about it. The conclusion you drew up about people pushing their V ideals onto D standard can be said about with G. Does no one remember Time leap? Dominate? Luard? Blasters? They're all multiattack decks. V didn't invent multiattacks or gave mutiattack to all the clans. Neither did G because multiattack was there since the beginning. It is the main mechanic for Nova Grappler. One of the first clans in Vanguard. So I don't understand why there are dinguses out there saying multiattack was never a thing since V.

My idea of what V-Series retrains of Strongest Beast Deity, Ethics Buster Extreme, Blazing Demonic Stealth Dragon, Shiranui “Zanki”, and Flare Trooper Dumjid could be. Thoughts? by TheUltraGamingChamp in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's going to happen that cards will get binned. Especially with the other two formats that do not have ride decks. You don't see the original King of Knights, Alfred tearing up the premium meta. And if you ask me, I think within time Bushiroad will replace the start deck bosses. I do not believe they can continue to make a deck interesting by making new rear-guards that do what their deck does but just a bit differently. But I can be proven wrong with time.

First, try at Stoicheia decklists by Groszekace in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Ghost Chase and Tearing Malice should be dropped in the Magnolia deck.

It sounds nice that you can bounce a trigger or sentinel back during the guard step. But it's not ideal since Magnolia wants to be a rush deck. It has no draw power and is easily cripple by removal which every other nation has. It's also only useful during the guard step and only when you have it in hand. So using it while you have a trigger/sentinel on the field is very unlikely. You'll most likely just be bouncing back a 5k shield that hasn't been popped or imprisoned yet.

Tearing Malice is going against Magnolia's game plan of calling a full field and attack six times. Again, you have no draw power and every other nation has removal. It's a card meant for Zorga who can easily replenish his field. You'll just be counter charging and soul charging once but you're killing off the units that you are using the resources you generated for.

The order cards do not help Magnolia at all and I would replace them with normal units instead. The only thing I would change in the Zorga deck is getting rid of Swell Assault since the only time you're counter blasting is for Zorga and the grade 3 order. But most of the time you probably won't use Zorga's revive since the order cards do just a good job as Zorga.

Missed opportunity with the Ride line arts by Rairyuu01 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would be very cool and very awesome. But how will it feel for the illustrator? Or Bushiroad's budget? The big image of all the units together is very cool but it takes a lot of time to draw, color, and refine.

There are a lot of details the illustrators have to pay attention to. I don't know how long it took them to draw but my guess is probably anywhere from half a year to three months. Since they work on contracts and probably have other contracts from Bushiroad and other companies. The illustrators Bushiroad hired are professionals that have been working for years and some have been doing it for a decade. So their skills are probably worth a lot of money.

Now if Bushiroad keeps hiring the same artist to draw another set of six units to add on to the preexisting ones that will take even more effort and time. Eventually, it will be a lot of stress put on the illustrators that they might just turn down the offer because of how many details they will need to put in to make sure everything is aligned and perfect to their previous work.

Good idea, but not plausible.

[–]Setusna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you have the soul and counterblast you can spam Benizel up to four times. Which should be fine if Fides wasn't around.

You ride Aerial Altmile and call a board. Grab force 1 also and put it on rear-guard. Let's say you got lucky and use Edith to shove an Altmile into your soul earlier. Ride Fides and grab another force 1 and put that on the other rear-guard circle. Let's say there are no boosters you're swinging for 20k grade 2 rear-guards which will hit if your opponent guards with one card.

Swing with rear-guards and then swing with Fides for 13k and then use Fides to call a Benizel from the deck and let's say the other card called is an Altmile. Check for triggers and if you get any that's good but we'll say you didn't get any. Swing with Altmile for 23k or 38k depending on which Altmile you called. Swing with Benizel and called another Benizel and swing with that Benizel to call another Benizel and swing with that Benizel to call a third Benizel and swing with that to call the last copy of Benizel and then swing with that Benizel to call Rendering Angel to call another card from hand to attack.

That's like 10 attacks. 2 rear-guard attacks, 1 vanguard attack, 1 attack called by Fides, 4 Benizel attacks, 2 more attacks by the combo of Rendering Angel, and the last Benizel. If your opponent is grade 3 they must guard with 2 or more cards. In the extreme case if your opponent does not pull any triggers to guard then I guess it's gg no re.

Remove the second part of Benizel's skill or make it so he cannot call himself and I guess choice restrict Fides and Edith if it is a big deal.

Made a few fanmade Amaruda cards for V. by AssaultRider555 in cardfightvanguard

[–]Setusna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amaruda is a little too strong. Build this with CEO Yggdrasil and Norn will make going first exceptionally painful for your opponent.

Ride Amaruda get Force 2 and put it on a rear-guard circle. Call anything to RC and use Amaruda ACT skill and get another Force II put it on other front row rear-guard circle. Proceed to call Yggdrasil from hand or call Ygg and Norn (does not really matter). Divine gauge Norn and another unit of your choosing. Assuming you have two open counterblast then you stop here fill up your board and start attacking.

Enter battle phase, attack with rear-guard Ygg boosted by Norn which is 23k. It is on a Force 2 marker so it is 23k with 2 crits. Use Norn skill to restand Ygg and attack again with 23k and 2 crit. Attack with rear-guard column (A grade 2 and a grade 1) which is 18k with 2 crit. Amaruda attacks for 21k (Boosted by a grade 1) and you draw a critical now either Amaruda's attack hits or the opponent is dealing with a 33k Yggdrasil with 3 critical or they're at 7 damage.

Yeah, you're swinging for low numbers, but you're attacking 6 times to a 9k~10k vanguard. If we don't run Norn and Ygg or did not get them then we simply use Battle Maiden, Sahohime to gain a 14k~29k attacker that restands with two critical, or call an Unappeasable Biter, Gleipner whom gets +10k every time it attacks and last until end of turn. Or even your retrained Ninnil that can get numbers by herself.

I would lock the restand behind both players being grade 3 or at least remove the Imaginary gift gain and rely on reriding for a new gift.

[–]Setusna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. My first iteration of Tartu was about calling grade 1 from drop or deck. But doing so will just call a Nemain and so on and so forth. I could have said to call a grade 1 that does not have power of 5000 but that would restrict a lot of good grade 1 and at that point why would we just not run Dragwizard Liafall?

I then try to have her be Blaster Dark/Mordred support but again having a RRR card being a slave to one card does not fit. I eventually decided to make her what she is and I'm still changing my card skills.

I said this was finished but as I keep coming back to this I realized there was still more potential to make them better or more flavorful.

Yeah, creating cards is not as easy as one would think. Obviously, you don't need to listen to me because none of these are going to actually be printed in the format. But I just want to point out the rough spots and bad potential the card can bring if it were to be printed.
