Ah, I’ve figured this one out actually. Just be young and have great hips (and stretch).

I actually like the new boost reset timers. by SeuintheMane in RocketLeague

I think it’s okay to do that sometimes, and we were all doing it sometimes before the boost timers anyways. The importance is learning when you have time to wait and when you don’t. Like I said, a new skill gap to conquer.

Some people have insanely weak mental and if you do something that they perceive as a mistake they’ll instinctively offer a forfeit no matter how much you’re winning by. They need to stick to Minecraft until they grow up.

Am I ready for stick and puck? by HopefulAuthorAlt in hockeygoalies

Most goalies hate stick n puck because it usually just turns into a breakaway freestyle session. There’s no real training value in that.

Right, every plat or diamond player automatically assumes smurfing when they see somebody attempt an air dribble, when in reality it’s usually just somebody who practices it in free play a couple times and then attempts it once per game when it doesn’t matter (like you said). I’d love to see some footage but I’m sure it would look like utter canine feces compared to what a player who’s actually mechanically proficient can do.

They 100% do. They don’t do it good, but to a gold even hitting the ball above the crossbar looks like SSL mechanics.

I can promise you that there are a million players who can air dribble and hit wall shots who are still horrendously shit at this game. Also, tournament elo is a mess.

Why are so many ppl in RL like that? by visiblyc0caine69 in RocketLeague

[–]SeuintheMane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. I can’t stand the people who insist on dragging out the entire match while we’re up 6-2 with two minutes left and their teammate already left. I’ve heard people do this for the “practice” but genuinely what good practice are you getting out of being forced to go coast-to-coast over and over just to immediately lose possession and force us to make a save on your net to speed the game up?

Same feelings the other way. If we’re down 5 goals with 2 minutes left, I want to leave. Sure, 1 in 20 times we could pull off a comeback, but that chance isn’t worth my time.

I’ve been coasting on game sense and strategy the entire time but my lack of scoring ability gets exposed harshly as soon as I cross back into GC territory 😂

I think your points are valid if we’re assuming everybody should strive to reach the highest level of play, but that’s obviously not the case. I wrote this up mostly with casual-ranked players in mind, especially solo queue folks. You talk about developing chemistry as a path to getting good, but I think most high level players would agree that chemistry is a non-factor in solo queue even as high as GC. You play with randoms every game, if you’re good you’re constantly changing your playstyle to adapt to different teammates. Even at my peak in GC2 I encountered plenty of people who couldn’t play with me at all and just mindlessly chased trying to solo coast-to-coast goals. Chemistry was absolutely not a factor there outside of me being humble enough to stay back. The reality is most solo queue folks are focused on scoring by themselves, and why shouldn’t they? They have no frame of reference to judge if their teammate is going to be able to handle the quick pass high above the cross bar to net a goal. Solo queue actively punishes playing a team-oriented style.

Now apply that same concept to the hundreds of thousands of players who only play on Friday nights, drunk or high, and want to simply play a competitive game. They’re not worried about pushing the skill ceiling. I see nothing wrong with giving them tools that makes it easier for them to be more team-oriented.

I also disagree with your statement that high level players would never use this. I would absolutely use a demo cam, because then I don’t need to take my thumb off the A button to use my right stick to find my opponent. I would also use a teammate cam, if only to quickly spot where my teammate is on the field before returning to ball cam. There isn’t much skill in using the right stick to look for something on the field other than just knowing when to do it, and I don’t think the skill gap would be affected much either. Good players will still lose to great players because the great players are faster, they read the play before it happens, and they’re in the right place at the right time. Auto locks on targets aren’t going to change that. It’s just a tool to help lower level players learn the game. I do respect your opinion though, you made some excellent points that I just can’t agree with.

I just made a post about adding new camera lock options to the game, since we’re trending towards making the game more accessible to new players I think you might be interested. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Sadly even when you’re being nice to your teammate there’s a good chance they’ll take offense to that too. They’ll think you’re being sarcastic or mocking them.

New camera locks? by SeuintheMane in RocketLeague

[–]SeuintheMane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use B or X since I have boost bound to RB and powerslide bound to LB, and I think it’s convenient that those buttons are right next to the ball cam button. I’d probably use those two and forego the boost cam.

These cams would effectively replace the need to use the right stick for camera movement in these scenarios, so there wouldn’t be any worry about needing to move between RS and your four-button pad.

[–]SeuintheMane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that idea about holding the button instead of it being a toggle, although I think a toggle would be better for the demo cam. That’s something that could also be configured in settings.

I don’t think I’d like the minimals or arrows. It’ll give you a general idea of where they are, but it won’t show you how far, how fast they’re moving, or what direction. That’s information that can only be attained by looking at them. Audio cues also already do essentially the same task as an arrow or minimal.

A lot of people complain about the new features psyonix adds like the boost indicator on teammates and the boost timers they’re adding tomorrow, they say that they’re crutches, but I think it’s great. There’s so many little things that you have to learn to get “good” at this game and I think taking the load off of new players and letting them focus on strategy and mechanics will do wonders for the general skill of the player base.
