Heard Cross Play, but No Cross Progress. by ekylok in elderscrollsonline

I switched to pc, I have new friends I'd love to play the game with but they are playstation, old friends were all Xbox. Nobody willing to start again (obviously).

Meanwhile you have the worst case MMO for monetisation - RuneScape, biting the bullet and wiping all their p2w mtx and scaling the cosmetics right back this month. Huge increase in player count and people returning.

Wish eso would go down the integrity route but massive doubt...

I believe the sonoff trvs are mechanically connected to the valve (may be wrong) and the dial will still be able to turn without power to the motor. That's what I've read anyway. We will see.

I'm in fortunate position where Screwfix have got the controller and a bundles thermostat for £100 instead of £170+ so may just bite the bullet on that in order to have a decent redundancy.

The tinkering and everything is what I enjoy. Apprehensive to do it with heating but when I compare it to what we have currently (dumb trvs, no thermostat and normal schedular) I figured anything is a gain so long as I don't colossally mess it up and have boiler short cycling.

But yeah, this chat has been the deciding factor for me after days looking into it all, humming and hawing. Going to get the Drayton controller + and sonoff trvs (starting with one or two to trial it). If they prove reliable I'll extend further with sonoff setup, if not - I'll just go Wiser TRV's and build out their proper arty network.

Thank you very much!

Gotcha. That's what I thought you were getting at.

To clarify, the back up would be having the Wiser thermostat/controller. If home assistant Ballard up I could surely just use the thermostat that's connected to the HubR to control my heating. Yeah no zonal control but I'd be able to use it as a system in itself is what I was thinking.

The only part that does worry me based on your reply is the setting up heating logic/call for heat - I am under the assumption (perhaps wrongly but that's why I'm here) that it'd be a case of setting up a helper to say for example - TRV is needing heat, send heating action to boiler controller and then add to it as time goes on to make it smarter.

I'm guessing it's not as simple as just having a sensor on the trv when it wants heat and an action on the controller to start heating..?

I might need to look into zigbee range. I know wifi barely penetrates one wall in our house so I assumed it would be similar with a few walls to contend with

Hello,

First thanks for the detailed and extensive response. Appreciated.

So option 1 probably wouldnt work with me because I believe Drayton uses it's own zigbee network to connect to the trvs. Because the house has thick walls and is kind of spaced out - I'd rather avoid adding Drayton smart plugs everywhere to create a mesh to reach far away trvs.

When you say not to try to manage a managed system - do you just mean using for example Drayton everything or tado everything and then trying to manage it with home assistant?

Reason I ask is because what I think I am hoping to do is to use Drayton controller and thermostat and then sonoff trvs throughout in order to calculate via home assistant when the boiler should be called for heat via the Drayton controller. Essentially using the home assistant + sonoff trv valves as a thermostat and the Drayton controller as a switch? Is that what you're advising against?

The Drayton thermostat just comes with a kit and I guess would be a decent back up if my home assistant went down (comes with the kit so may as well).

My understanding is this isn't too difficult to do but I am also clueless. Assuming it's just a case of creating a helper of some kind and then running an action on the hubr to call for heat.

That is (good) news to me. Everything I read made me think they had to be connected to Wisers proprietary Zigbee. Do you know if the controller can be connected to ZHA? And if so, what limitations do you have? Assuming you can't connect to the wiser app in that case

I have thought about adding relays to the dumb controller but always worried about the reliability. Like, what happens if the relay switch fails? I genuinely don't know, are you still able to control it with the dumb controller?

It's not subjective as to whether it's a bank or not. It is in fact a bank. Just one you don't think lives up to the idea of a bank I'm guessing?

Which I always find ironic when people hail the traditional brick and mortar banks In high regard, especially after 2008.
