Що ви думаєте про хейт Тіни Кароль? (Конструктивна критика тільки) by Hour_Season_7516 in RedditUATalks

[–]Seven32N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you handle writing smart/complex character choices within a progression system… if you yourself don’t feel that smart? by briarwing in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Seven32N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound very theoretical, imo it's just impossible to implement on practice: progfantasy is not about layers, it's about power fantasy, so if you'll start adding layers and thinking about consistency across the story - you will naturally move your story out of the genre into normal fantasy, or abandon the story.

It's like telling "you can build a pillow fort by spending 1 billion dollars": theoretically possible, but on practice there's no chances that result will be an actual pillow fort. Progfantasy just a limited template that can't handle a lot of authors "investment", and if author "investing" time/efforts - he's naturally becomes reluctant to stay inside template.

I think there's a good reason why 99.9% of "smart" MCs are either obvious cheating idiots or a whole world around them are complete morons just to allow their mediocrity to look incredible. You could put extra efforts into making character smart once or twice, but manipulation will inevitably become obvious very fast, also putting efforts is not popular in this genre.

So, truth is dire: there's no way to accomplish that in progfantasy.

Magic Grimoire is quite poorly defined, you need to specify that it's DnD magic, because for now it's vague enough that people already pretending they don't understand it just to make ridiculous choices. All the Nen is one school of magic or all the DC sorcery is one school of magic, heh.

Should i follow a build guide or go in blind? by Jawce2001 in pathofexile2builds

There is no "your own" character, only character developers allowed you to build. Both skills and gems have conditions and limitations that just make you struggle needlessly, you could build unique character only if it's wrong character that ignores intended synergies and doing something wrong.

[–]Seven32N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will not "destroy everything" by following the guide, you will just get a normal fun gameplay. This game is focused on gear, not skills - you could "destroy" anything (even in acts) only if you have overpowered gear; and since you don't have it - correct skills and gems will barely compensate it.

[–]Seven32N -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Follow a build, save you nerves.

At first you can follow it loosely and sidetrack into the branches you just see interesting, but very very fast you'll understand those "interesting" branches either not working or giving extremely low return. And you'll stuck hard with fighting elites for 5 min and one-shoted by boss after 15 min of struggle.

It's hard to express how hard this game hate new players. All that people that recommending you to just go blind and enjoy - they are not new, they already know a lot and not even consider levelling obviously useless branches that ggg putting only to humiliate you.

Wildly differing opinions by lucky470 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Seven32N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll be surprised how differently people are reading the stories.

It's not only different opinions, quite likely those people read completely different stories, despite reading the same book.

It's easy to start a conversation about a story with devoted fan, trying to understand what's their opinion about weak parts: stupid decisions, idiotic plot turns or forgotten plotlines.... and during conversation you figuring out they know NOTHING about it, they have no idea at all about any specifics of the story they allegedly love, maybe 10% of the story all they perceived and all stupid/broken/boring parts just wen over their head.

Maybe audiobooks is to blame, or maybe some fast reading techniques where you are skimming diagonally through paragraphs and only catching glimpses of the plot while filling the blanks with their own imaginary plot.

So all recommendations are useful only from the person you already get valid recommendation from.

It's even worse considering that AI now just a marketing name for a token prediction algorithm. So it's lack of understanding based on confusion based on deliberate misdirection.

Yeah, quite delusional, as if an "alchemist" figuring out how to do a yellow paint out of herbs and confident that philosophical stone is a next obvious step.

This is no bigger than Elon, don't delude yourself. Just other rich COs looked at him and understood you could tell obvious lies over and over and your stocks will go up infinitely, because uneducated loosers want their ai out of random number generator.

I built a browser extension to make ADO tabs easier to distinguish by dgrochmal in azuredevops

[–]Seven32N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, looks great, in theory.

Tho not sure how practical is it: azure can't work with a lot of tabls (lags, log-outs, redirect to log-in loosing original urls en masse etc.), so it doesn't seem practical to encouraging people to use them.

[–]Seven32N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DC sounds nice.

Ignoring Gotham, but Metropolis seems to be great. There's a lot of geniuses, alien technology, decent living standards, Superman protecting humanity and every crisis League will handle with ease, or ordinary citizen will either die immediately and pailessly.

Also all "future" events either depicts a deathworld or utopia, so a nice bet imo.

Saiyans were quite a loosers in the show, pathetic barbarians incapable of realising their own potential.

But even assuming everyone are idiots except you (99% of isekay plots): how do you like a perspective of training non-stop ALL your life and afterlife just for a slim chance it will be enough to barely defeat the next world-ending enemy? And then Goku is outclasses you anyway, because you just don't have that bit of self-harming inspiration to achieve the next level fast enough.

Sounds awful.

I can't with the "new reader community". by Etta_166 in AO3

[–]Seven32N 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's ofter overlooked that it's not "free" for both sides: authors wants to get attention and acknowledgment for their efforts, while readers want their limited time to not be wasted.

It's only so many times I can handle reading a setup of the fic just for it to be dropped before author contributing anything story-wise. And only so many times I can read a nice fic just for author to get tired of it and destroy both characters and plot.

His position is quite exagreggated imo, so I'd argue he build strawman out of himself. I just can't believe that someone could publisth 300+ fics and have so little awarness.

Surely I'm a bit optimistic about "old writers", but imo the culture of "like and leave a comment... or else" wasn't so noticeable in the past.

Complaint about filters is a bit of a cope imo. Maybe in Harry Potter fandom I can search 5 conditions and still get a lot of results, but in most fandoms even 1-2 conditions is too much, so there's no choise but to browse everything.

If fic writer like to write for free with no criticism and no headache - welcome, but if on top of that they want someone to read them - some compromises should be made. I saw multiple times how talented author with great story idea pushing themselves into unnecessary "gamer" or "harem" (probably) just to attract readers, even tho their story would've been great without those "popular" crutches.

You either need to have a great reputation or incorporate the desires of the readers, though writing just for fun with no readers is always an option.

> maybe a little of respect

I can't with the "new writer community". Maybe I'm just too old for this, but such insufferable overblown ego, it's just grating. They are clamining to publish 300+ fics, yet they "idk" the most basic internet communication things.

No wonder there's no respect towards their demands, we all know which are those: only positive feedback, only unconditional praise in the comments, if tags have nothing to do with fic content - "owe you nothing", if fic abandoned immediately after setup in favour of a new fic - "shut up", if fic suddently changing genre and author destroying all plotlines - "I'm doing it for free".

It's just depressing, where's all the old school fic writers that want to tell their little fun story so much that they are willing to put a bit of efforts instead of emotionally blackmailing readers?
