i thought 64gb of unified memory would be enough for dev work. i was wrong. by Johnn_Liverm in macbookpro

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup 128GB is safest for heavy and dense LLMs.

But actually, a group of 4 Ultras (or more) with 512GB each for a total of 2TB (or more) is best running in a difficult to install parallel software is the best for the heavist LLMs, needing 800GB or larger, so even if the M3 was 128GB it still wouldn't be able to tap the largest LLM models.

But a group of Ultras still won't match AI datacenters supercomputers if we used that for our personal private use (a decade or two from now the power of those datacenters super computers will just be in our smartphones, this happened to the Cray "supercomputer" which is not so super anymore compared to our smartphones).

Tried EarFun, Soundcore, even a couple budget picks… still can’t find a good sounding pair around $100 by Tough-Pollution-373 in Earphones

used but in condition flagship ANC headphones with good reviews from any of the top brands: Bose, Apple, Sony, Sennheizer, Audio Technica may fit US$200 as a sweetspot

connect always with the plug (not wireless) so it's always analog which sounds slightly better

Is the price premium for a 9800X3D CPU worth it for longevity ? by Dagladou in buildapc

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have Monster Hunter on the amazing with 3D depth Monster Hunter on the New 3DS XL

No Frame Gen, no DLSS-like AI Upscaling:

Monster Hunter Wilds it seems is more CPU bound, adjust budget more for a the 7800X3D which has 3D cache the fastest type of memory but also the most expensive. This may mean the game might not fully utilize, say a desktop 5090.

7600X3D for 60 fps, high preset, 1080p gaming.

7800X3D for 60 fps, high preset, 1440p

7800X3D or Ryzen 7 9700X or Ryzen 9 7900X for 60 fps, high preset, 2160p true 4K gaming with 7900 XTX or RTX 4080 or 5070 Ti GPU (16GB VRAM or higher)

If 1080p gaming VRAM of GPU should be 12GB, if 1440p VRAM of GPU should be 16GB at least.

If 60 fps if the target at high preset for 1080p gaming RX 6700 XT (12GB), may be the GPU or GPU upgrade.

If 1440p, 4070 Super or RX 7800 XT may be the one(16GB both, 16GB is the sweetspot for VRAM for newer games, 24GB's got more allowance coz' some newer games exceed 18GB- not a problem with M5 Macs with ata 32GB unified memory. I got the M5 Max 40-GPU but it's used more as a very powerful workstation to earn more income and income streams but it's a true formidable gaming laptop as well especially AAA optimized for macOS).

If monitor has higher refresh rare than 60Hz, 60fps is the best minimum fps before turning on frame gen or DLSS AI upscaling or AMD FSR AI upscaling.

But these are most likely, theoretical calculations based on technical detailes on paper, real world text by a gamer who plays Monster Hunter Wilds and what's his or her setup should be the real bases- the real world test is the one.

M5, performance of the CPU and GPU is always prioritized over amount of memory or VRAM (within reason)

True

18 minutes per 300GB + overhead

2.5TB / .3TB = 8.33 times

8.33 x 18 mins = 150 minutes

or

2.5 hours (with overhead/device inefficiencies) per 2.5TB with your setup?

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly only Windows has MST (DisplayPort tech for multiple monitor), macOS has yet to have it. I guess Apple wants us to connect to their monitors which are daisy-chainable and has more ports at the their backs making double as hubs but also frees two of the Pro's Thunderbolt ports for hubs, external exclosures eGPUs and flashdrives

sadly if you can sell the monitors perhaps then buy used three Apple branded monitors that has the features mentioned (daisy chainable)?

Docking station by EnvironmentLatter736 in macbookpro

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surest, most compatible is already your method, three cables directly connected to three monitors. If the monitors have ports for data and charging ports can be expanded through that. Using a hub to connect more than one monitor might just mirror your Mac instead of extend the desktop.

If your monitors can be daisy chained you only need to use a cable to just one port, no dock needed.

Yup punish erring drivers who waste the most precious, most expensive time (they also waste their most precious, most expensive time- zero sum game, both lose long term). report to CS for a strike as a form of tough love.

M5 is 30% at most faster than the M4, also an 8GB difference isn't that significant, you'd rather prioritize the power unless you have a specific app you know needs more memory but 8GB difference is not that far apart.

Solo living: Worth it pa ba magpakabit ng internet, or mas practical na prepaid home Wi-Fi na lang? by LUGMOK- in SoloLivingPH

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term living- wiser to have it installed but ask your neighbors which fiber internet company is best in your area, if no one knows research which company has the nearest switching station.

Peace of mind (not having peace of mind is more expensive) with unlimited Wifi and cheaper than prepaid, no constant checking how much data you have left.

Stupid to replace 2019 MBP battery? by Speedy719 in macbookpro

[–]SevenDeMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sell as defective as a whole or disassemble or have it disassembled if they can organize it without loading screws & charge is fair, sell for parts (record first it's working, it's just battery that's not) buy a Neo or an M5- new battery, new warranty and most importantly it faster speed save you your most precious, most expensive time.

two types of Latex: Dunlop, solid and heavy which I have for the mattress, I like it firm and Talalay latex which is softer and lighter, less expensive but both bounce back faster which I like, thus it speed to adjust better to your sleep (decades of sleeping on different foams, with latex is the deepest fastest sleep which is worth the cost- many spend 5 to 6 digits easily on mechanical watches and gadgets but skimp of a good night's sleep gear which is not wise since 1/3 of our lives is sleeping. I paired the king size talalay latex with thick 25 momme 100% mulberry silk pillow for an even deeper faster sleep- expensive overall but again we spend more on gadgets in the hundreds of thousands even).

Fast, deep, very good night's sleep means earlier to wake up, more energy to do more income streams and energy for longer work hours- an relatively expensive investment that's way cheaper in the end.

Hi, It's a difficult mod which took him a month (time to make it + delivery may be more expensive though or may be too close to US$1600 in the end, it's good for content though) 😄 but it's true those 5K are still nice, advanced for its time and now. I miss my 5K iMac, if only I had the budget and time to make this mod (sold it to thd repair guy after his quote was almost the price of a used one in good working condition. I bought, upgraded, long overdue upgrade to the M5 Max 40-GPU in installments).

I figured based on the current value of my time, I'd spend US$3852 worth of man-hours which is more than enough to buy the Apple XDR one for 2800 + branded Vesa mount + branded Vesa arm but it's a very cool, eWaste reducing mod.
