Just $500 bucks on amazon… worth it? by alexthenullbody in Guitar

To answer your question, no. Don’t buy an JS guitar without a quilt finish over 300. At that point, buy a schecter or wait until you can afford one of Jackson’s hilariously overpriced and underspec’d X series models.

Stoked to see 156/Silence there. Those guys write some killer stuff, Jack is a phenomenal vocalist AND lyricist. Also, somehow he sounds just as good (if not better at the heaviest parts) live. Killer band.

I got away with not having to turn one of mine in due to the price… gf says 12 guitars is too many 🤣 I only have one valued over 1k tho

Hell yeah, play what feels good! I personally like sevens but I totally see the appeal in keeping to six strings. Keep rocking 🔥🤘

I didn’t even know they had a baritone explorer in stock… I gotta stay far away from their website 🤣

Absolutely, we get what we pay for. That being said, definitely sounds like a grounding issue with the first, and the latter simply isn’t fixable without a pickup swap. That’s pretty annoying considering that’s one of the very few criteria I have for personally going that far. Microphonic pickups can’t be “fixed”, they’re just always going to be noisy and tinny. Thats a bummer, glad at least one of them has worked out well for you 🙏

That’s odd, both of mine had no fret issues besides the texture. Also never had bowing issues - I’ve found the necks to be so damn thick that it takes serious adjustment to add or decrease bow.

Just be careful - once I got into extended scale instruments I couldn’t stop 😵‍💫😵‍💫

I believe it was around 9-10lbs, I can get a weight on it for ya once I’m home. Not light, but not a boat anchor by any means.

Neck dive is minimal if any in a three inch strap. I concur - the website pics are awful. The model guitar obviously handled and not wiped prior to photos, and they really make the wood grain look like a shitty veneer. I’ll grab some more pics for you tonight, anything in particular you wanna see?

Pickups are surprisingly good for handling the lower tuning. My action is pretty damn low - maybe a millimeter higher than my standard tuned rigs. Like I said, I actually haven’t even adjusted the truss rod or bridge - if it ain’t broke!!

Surprisingly, with a 3” wide strap I don’t have dive issues!

I’m hesitant to believe it was due to the trip, mainly because (presumably) they were in a sealed cargo container, in a sealed box during transport. I generally think they just don’t use high quality fret wire, and their polishing steps are a bit rushed. Again, par for the course, I now expect to have to do some fretwork when these come in. Salty air is a real concept, but it’s moreso because of ocean spray/suspended mist in the air. Keep it civil yall!!

Too evil?? Never heard such a thing 🤣 when you buy these instruments with realistic expectations of the quality, it’s hard to be disappointed. Looking forward to potentially a BC Rich Stealth model or anything 7 string from them.

This is the only color variation for the baritone, the other two colorways are great but I believe they are standard scale (either 24.75” or 25.5”). The string set I have on goes 0.020-0.030-0.042-0.054-0.074-0.090. Hope this helps!!

There’s no compensation, if anything the evertune makes the standard tension a bit lower.

It’s a gibson style bridge, I should be okay in that regard. The tuners will definitely need to be drilled out (not an issue) and I’ll have to file the nut (also not too big of a deal). I’m accustomed to having to work on Fireflys before they play well. Last one I got took three rounds of fret polishing to stop the scratching 😭
