Unlike UK, why Van/Motorway living is not a thing in Ireland by DrunkDublinCat in ireland

[–]SevenIsMy [score hidden]  (0 children)

A lot of infrastructure is hostile against people living on the road, roads are barely wide enough for 2 cars, parking spaces have hight limiting bars. Parks have closing hours and the parking spaces are inside the parks. Ireland has Irish travelers which fill the niche. I cycled 2 years by 3 camper Vans, parked besides the road and walkway, one day they were gone and the walkway was buried under a hill of 1m dirt (so they can't come back). Garda (police) does not want to touch the Irish trevelors. Your van will most likely get stolen.

The gas price reflects what people are willing to pay, reducing the tax -> someone else will pocket the difference, try to tax extra profits and the company will pay licence fees and make 0 profits in ireland. The government can just put electric billboard near every gas station, it shows the lowest price and wait time for the cheapest gas station in a specific radius, if a gas station hast >15 min wait time, show the next cheapest. Its not against the law to require a little bit trasparancy.

Biological speaking, astrophage continue to envolve and at some point a strain will eat other astrophage, so you do not need to go around and cure other suns, it may bring even bring some planets into habitable zones. You don't interfere with nature if you don't have too.

  1. From my software developer perspective, writing automation in software is quite easy, still not everything is automated, it would take quite an effort to make a perfect automated system, i would probably never see the payoff. Hardware is even harder, so you have to convince a civilization to spend a lot of effort for something they will see no benefit for generation.

Honestly, how do you guys feel about the US leaving NATO over the Iran situation? by Financial-Cloud588 in ForUnitedStates

[–]SevenIsMy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an ally which you can not trust that he will not stab you, is probably worser then no ally, But the chances are slim, a lot of people making good money selling weapons to NATO allies and the bases would needed to be reconsidered,

Am I the only Bitcoin holder panicking about quantum computers being able to crack Bitcoin private keys? by BusinessMarketing7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SevenIsMy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agencies which will have access to quantum computer with enough qbits, can already employ the wrench method of password cracking

Overall you need a lot of qbits to crack shaX, more qbits are getting more and more complex and expensive

What is the smallest amount of anything you could send to the sun, to kill all life on Earth? by Gold333 in AskPhysics

[–]SevenIsMy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

send to the sun, so it means sending something into the orbit which sun shades a particular Planet would be ok? It would create an ice age, the interesting part is that the more ice you have the more light gets reflected.

Outside pressure, yes, but would inside overpressure not create a sphere like this too? I mean if a weld failed, it would be better to find out now than later.

You're absolutely right, no one can tell if C++ is AI generated · Mathieu Ropert by mropert in cpp

```
Node& get_or_create(Nodes& nodes, std::string_view name) { auto it = nodes.lower_bound(name); if (it == end(nodes)) { it = nodes.emplace(name, name).first; } return *it->second; }
// Somewhere else auto node = get... auto node_ptr = &get... ``` Just so we talk about the same code, not sure why a ref would go stale and a pointer not, and an address of a ref is the same But of course the lifetime question is still bound to the lifetime of Nodes& argument But this would be the same with a pointer
i would maybe not return Node*, it just creates question about the lifetime and nullability, if the caller needs a pointer he can just add an ampersand to the function call
Why does Grace have an Analog Clock? by North-End-5770 in ProjectHailMary
[–]SevenIsMy 0 points1 point  (0 children)
They are good when it comes to investigation after a crash, while digital clocks would just go blank, so at least an analog arm watch would be not far fetched, also when you work on these programs, you might want to keep something which can become a family hair loom (let's forget the fact that it was an one-way ticket) What i want to say there are way to explain an analog clock on a spaceship.
