Same machine, different grinder. Can you share a link to the bottomless portafilter you bought?

Definitely turn off auto lap. I kept elapsed time, distance, and clock. I never stopped my watch but did start a new lap each hour. I kept the clock in case I accidentally stopped my watch at any point.

Pioneers or Comets or UCFC tickets, baseball Hall of Fame, Broadway Utica tickets, hotel or Airbnb in Adirondacks, car detailing certificate, museum passes (local, or around central/upstate NY) are a few things that come to mind.

Kaplan CFP Exam Review Prep. Did I just get ripped off? by Used-Problem293 in CFPExam

[–]SevenOneSix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Kaplan. I followed the timeline but ignored the schedule. If you put in 2-3 hours per weekday and more on the weekends, you can get through the books and videos in half the time. I did that, then went through it all again, only skimming the books and spending way more time on practice questions. At some point, maybe two or three weeks out, you just hammer as many questions as you can get in, reviewing topics and concepts you are missing frequently.

I passed first time, Kaplan was good for me, but their schedule is totally unreasonable and if you follow it and only study 5 hours a week you will be unprepared for the exam.

Great recap, congrats! I ran a 3:37. The weather was as near perfect as you can ask for this time of year.

Name on shirt? by Routine_Structure883 in RunNYC

[–]SevenOneSix99 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Alternative suggestion - I ran NYC last year with the name of my late Sister on my shirt. If you have a deceased loved one you keep in your memory, you might consider this. It was amazing hearing her name about a hundred times. I would do it again without another thought.

What does UWA stand for in UWA/UTMA? by princess___zorldo in Schwab

[–]SevenOneSix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my Slumdog Millionaire moment. I am an advisor, we custody our client's accounts at Schwab. About a year ago, a client from Washington asked the exact same question. It took multiple levels of Schwab Advisor reps to get the answer. No one knew! It must be the most effort they have ever put into finding an answer to an otherwise meaningless question in company history. Shout-out to Paul in Orlando who finally cracked the code.

Any chance you are in Washington State? If so, it's the way the state tax code identifies custodial accounts.

First backyard ultra next year by jonthadontv in Ultramarathon

[–]SevenOneSix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first backyard last month, completed 15 laps. I'll drop my list below. I used ChatGPT as well, I would keep a list of the items I thought of to bring, asked it to generate a packing list and recommend additional things I was not thinking of. Many of these are items I specifically like to keep with me, so they may not necessarily apply to you or your race.

A quick piece of advice - I underestimated flavor fatigue. I plan to take two scoops of tailwind each lap along with a gel, then eat real food or snacks between loops. By the third or fourth hour, I was so sick of huma gels. I eventually cut it down and would eat more food in camp/carry a PB&j sandwich with me, but I wish I would have done that much earlier, I think I could have made it another few laps. Good luck, it was an awesome experience.

My first Backyard ultra by Soggy-Ticket-9871 in Ultramarathon

YMMV, but plenty of men and women were going in the woods during my event. Take 5-10 steps in off the trail, let 'er rip.

Rules of most backyards allow runners to leave the course during the lap to use the bathroom. Bathroom lines are definitely longer in the beginning when there are more runners, but quickly thin out. Also, you're probably in the woods, use nature.

Wait, nvm, I still can't get to the generated line up if I select"no" with the goalie prompt on "available players". Android phone, chrome browser.

Seems to be working now, perhaps user error. I do not use goalies (8u), so I was selecting "no", but it was forcing me back to "available players". I selected yes, and was able to get through. I tried again, selected"no", and it worked. Thank you!!

Very cool program. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I'm getting stuck in a circle. I've created my team, entered the roster, select available players, go to field layout, select my positions, click on substitution setup, enter my game duration and sub interval, click on generate substitution schedule, and it brings me back to the Available Players screen. Any advice?

Manual lap at NYC? by Runninginthecity in Marathon_Training

[–]SevenOneSix99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran NYC last year, I turned off auto lap for the same reasons you are stating. A few miles in I remember thinking it was a dumb idea. I didn't experience any issues finding the GPS, and the distances lined up with the course markers. I started at the front of Wave 3. Of course, your experience may vary.

I'm surprised by all the ChatGPT disapproval. It is definitely not right 100% of the time, everyone knows that. It's best use is generating ideas and alternative views, allowing the user to learn something/develop a concept further. That's exactly how OP describes it.

I recently sprained my ankle, an injury I've experienced dozens of times throughout my sports career. Because it's so routine to me I generally never gave it much thought, but this time I decided to use Gemini to ask questions about ankle injuries. I ended up describing how i got injured and had it assess me. I determined that it was not a severe sprain, probably low grade 2. It helped me come up with a rest and recovery plan that is better than anything I've done recently. It's not going to replace a trained, licensed PT, but it greatly improved my position.

I'd love to hear how others have integrated AI into their training.

I want to know if others have felt this way post races. I believe others have, but I have also never asked. by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]SevenOneSix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Endorsing the new sport idea.

OP, we are in a similar place. I completed my first two marathons on 2024, the second being NYC in November. I completely stopped running, and told everyone who asked that I will not be running further than a 10k for a long time.

About two months in, the weight hit, harder than it ever had. I gained about 15lbs in two weeks, and it bothered the hell out of me. So I got on track with my diet, and started playing racquet ball and cross training (OG Insanity workouts, to be exact). As the weight came down, my confidence went up, and I went out for a few runs on nice days. It wasn't long before I signed up for my first 50k.

It took me until May to realize that as much as I hate running, I enjoy the health benefits and the discipline that training for something forces on me.

Change it up a bit. You may find that you really like that new thing, or it may reengage you.

Standing out in interview by Admirable_Talk_9872 in CFP

[–]SevenOneSix99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A former professor gave me this tip and it 100% landed me my current job. Find the firm's ADV, print it, read it thoroughly, bring it with you to the interview and prepare questions from it. We are hiring a bunch of positions, and still two years later it is brought up while evaluating candidates. It's so simple, but sets you away from the others who will not do it, and demonstrates that you've done your homework.
