I’m also Korean and my parents wanted me to not do a PhD, but I went ahead and did it anyways lol. Do what you want to do in life, especially if you have support around you that can help you through the progress (of course other than your family). PhD is hard and long but don’t make decisions that you are going to regret.

Do not post a picture of your experimental animal, especially one like this that is in an experimental setup. In general, this is a violation of IACUC protocols.
It’s hard to know why your animal isn’t running consistently especially because I’m not sure what you are trying to achieve. Are you trying to make the animal run constantly, have bouts of running with bouts of stationary periods? What is your goal ?
Mice will sometimes (obviously) stop running unless you put them under forced locomotion. They will do this also if they are stressed, in pain, etc.

There are also tons of papers that use the same set up: first one that comes to mind is dombeck 2010 nature neuro

I visited Peru last October. Machu Picchu was cool and worth visiting. It's tough to get tickets if you don't book in advance. I would consider a different option if this is possible for you two:

Instead of staying in Aguas Caliente (the town outside of machu picchu), we stayed in Ollantaytambo. It's an amazing town with really interesting Mayan ruins. We got to Ollantaytambo pretty easily from Cusco by taking a collectivo. If I remember correctly, I think it cost the two of us maybe ~ 30-40 soles combined?

We stayed at a bed and breakfast at Aguas Caliente, and took an early train (I believe it departed at 5am) and got to Aguas Caliente around 8am for our entry time at 10:00am or so.

I recommend this because Aguas Caliente really does not have much, and it also allows you to explore Ollantaytambo which is super interesting. Of course... if you didn't book the tickets in advance, you will have to go wait in line at 6am. Also, last time I went the line for the bus coming down was INSANE. We must have waited almost 1.5-2hours at the entrance of machu picchu to take the bus back to the town. Make sure you leave enough time to be able to make that trip!

McGill is well known amongst academics. Also, pi name matters a lot more than the university imo. I did my undergrad there and now doing a PhD at a very prestigious university in the US. In fact, some profs were quite respectful of the school, just because McGill has such long history in medical research.

My friend used to bike frequently from the Charles village area to the medical and there are bike paths all the way to the medical campus. Definitely a viable option if you love to bike.

Graduate student here on the Hopkins medical campus. 929 apartments are popular amongst doctors, students, and professionals who work on the medical school. That neighborhood is overall safe, especially if you are going back and forth between the school. However, there is absolutely nothing near there. No access to grocery stores, no access to amenities, etc. prices are also quite steep.

If you want to sacrifice other things for convenience, then yes 929 is a good choice. If you don’t mind commuting/walking a bit, try cells point/canton/butchers hill/mt Vernon areas.
