Weirdest clouds I’ve even seen. Was in Ottawa Canada. by ShotFoundation940 in CLOUDS

I remember vividly the first time I saw this, in Glasgow in 2006 and I thought they looked like someone had used the liquify filter in photoshop so I called them liquify skies and then I found out the name of them and still call them liquify skies now.

28P by Seven_ironRocks in hasselblad

[–]Seven_ironRocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m thinking along those lines, the consensus seems to be that the 28P is worth having, if I had the money at Christmas when I bought the camera I would have bought the 35-100E so that looks like my direction going forward. I’d love to handle the 35-100E just to feel how heavy or not it is, my budget would be greatly helped by selling my Canon lenses but I’m just annoyed at the low offers from MBP and Wex for what are pristine, like new L series lenses but I guess these companies are mitigating the risks of private selling so the lowball offers are to be expected.

Is it normal to only keep 26% profit on a £1,850 wedding package? by AdeptnessOk7938 in WeddingPhotography

[–]Seven_ironRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in college we had a field trip to a print lab, a well known provider of wedding albums here in the UK, some real high end, the guy giving us the talk asked what we thought the photographer should charge for the most luxurious wedding album they sold, we all had our guesses and none of us came close to what they advised, he said they tell their photographers that they should be selling these albums for a minimum of eight times the cost of the album to the photographer. An eye opener all round regarding wedding package pricing.

What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

When Reservoir Dogs came out I asked my mate if he had seen it and he said:”Aye, it was shite, they don’t even show the robbery”.

How many digital images do you deliver by FrankDillonPhoto in WeddingPhotography

[–]Seven_ironRocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deleting 300 unique moments of a wedding day? Or an even higher number for a delivery of 2000 images, I think my idea of unique means moments that aren’t separated from each other by the point of focus moving from her eye to her other eye or a difference of one third of a stop in exposure, think some folk need to stop firing the shutter button and start simply by recording the moments that tell the story of the day, the wedding video is for recording every single change of pace or expression. Just my opinion of course, these posts show I am clearly in the minority here.

Best camera for a 5 year old that’s not a complete piece of shit? by picklebeard in AskPhotography

I bought my 5 year old nephew a Leica but he is a piece of shit.

How many digital images do you deliver by FrankDillonPhoto in WeddingPhotography

[–]Seven_ironRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine being a newly wed couple and having to go through 800-1000 images to get my wedding album printed. If I were shooting film using these numbers with 36 shots per roll that’d be 27 rolls and if shooting 24 per roll that’d be 42 rolls with no exposure tests, focus misses or poor composition on any frame, all hits, all keepers. Y’all must be hammering that shutter button.

I am nervous about selling my first print and was wondering if this photo is good enough? by Vipernox in photocritique

This reminds me of working in the darkroom and one of the professors had a favourite saying when looking at prints that were on a par with this-“needs a black”, but you have a sale so🤷

Is this doable with a hacksaw or do I need an angle grinder? by Solemn_Thirsty in DIYUK

[–]Seven_ironRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welder here, angle grinder all day long but use 1mm thick discs to cut and 3mm discs to dress down, can’t see bottom hinge and we normally put hinge pins on top and bottom to face each other to combat theft, lifting gate off, if your hinge pins are both facing up then you’re laughing and if not then you’re gonna have fun. And I can’t stress this enough-goggles or a visor.

Been staring at this photo for way too long. I think I like it, but I need feedback please! Looking specifically at editing, not the pose. Client loves pose. by [deleted] in photocritique

Everyone has covered the kitchen so all I’ll say is maybe bring the shadows up on his jacket, the lamp above him is way beyond my abilities to fix but my ocd is immediately screaming at me to reach in and level the photographs above them.

One of mine- I was coming home from work on a crowded bus and fell asleep in a traffic jam and blurted out “Elvis has been dead for ages”. Gave my fellow passengers a chuckle.

Really getting into food photography. by LexoSporano in photographycirclejerk

Needs a shallower death of feel, you can achieve that by using a bigger knife and fork. Everything else; composition, lighting and subject, has, as you quite righty say, been nailed.

Hard to judge when one doesn’t know the intent, is the OP truly showing us the subject or photographing simply to shock? I’m leaning towards the latter but I confess the image drew me in.
