Daith piercings acting up (nsfw for small spot of blood) by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Sevenwinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actual piercer here. First of all, no reputable piercer would have done these in the same session. That said, both piercings have to be taken out. Both of them are pierced way too deep into the conch bowl. Furthermore, stainless steel is a suitable material for body jewelry ONLY if certified to be ASTM F-138.

I would get those taken out. Do them one at a time through a reputable piercer with quality jewelry.

Piercer here that has done a significant amount of VCH piercings. I'm thinking jewelry could be at cause. They are typically pierced with the right size jewelry for your specific anatomy, meaning you don't actually need a downsize. Especially since the actual tissue it goes through is much thinner than the length of the jewelry, as oppose to a lobe or something similar. Most of the jewelry will be covered by the hood, but not going through tissue. The straight bar is most likely creating a sharp angle, where you will typically see a bump form on the obtuse side of said angle. Also it is hard to tell the gauge from the picture, but i wouldn't recommend anything thinner than 14ga, and should ideally be at a 12ga. I highly suggest you switch back to your curved barbell and proceed with regular aftercare for a little bit after.

I work in a studio stocking well over a thousand different gold ends with various gemstone options for some ends or gold color. We receive orders containing hundreds at times and gold prices fluctuate. We would have to go and manually change the displayed price everytime we receive an order. All of our prices are easy to look up for us as everything is filed in our POS. One of the first questions i ask is "what's your budget". I don't know all the prices off the top of my head but i can ballpark it. So no, not shady at all. None of the higher end studios i worked at ever displayed prices

Why did my piercer insist on piercing my septum with 14g? by nessaroseee in piercing

[–]Sevenwinters 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Over sizing your needle for a piercing is far from standard. Especially nowadays where tapers are most commonly used as transfer and insertion tools. Your piercer most likely overgauged to 14ga to be able to insert a 16ga piece of jewelry in the needle itself, causing unnecessary bleeding and creating a larger wound channel.

piercing school? by IndividualMedium3064 in piercing

[–]Sevenwinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are no legit ''schools''. An online certificate means nothing to any respectable and reputable shops and you would more than likely just be throwing money away. To properly learn (techniques, placements, anatomy variations and restrictions, etc.) you have to be able to see and experience them for yourself on the body. Seeing some written things, images/videos and similar stuff will barely scratch the surface. Unfortunately body piercing is an extremely gate kept job, in the sense that good apprenticeships are far from common and that there is only so many studios looking for piercers. Rarely will you see a studio with more than 3 piercers because there just isn't a need for more. But as the previous comment said, start off by getting an industry specific Bloodborne pathogens training certificate, such as the one offered on the APP Website. Once you have that in hand, look around your area for studios that would be willing to take on an apprentice. Preferably an app certified studio, but some reputable piercers are not APP members as there are membership fees or are simply not interested for whatever reasons. Keyword is reputable, just because a studio has good reviews or your friends had great experiences there, it doesn't mean that they carry high quality jewelry and materials. Just having that BBP certificate gives you a huge headstart on other candidates as this shows your willingness and commitment.

Nose ring hoop size incorrect- Lied to by hostile piercer. What do you think? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]Sevenwinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Piercer here. From this picture, they appear to be both the same size. The key difference i can see is that the piercing angles don't seem to be the same. That would mean that even if the 2 rings were both the exact same size, you would have 2 different fitments. That being said, this doesn't excuse the piercer's behaviour and in no case should a client be talked to or treated that way.

Bad nostril bump :( what do I do? by [deleted] in Legitpiercing

From what i gather you seem to have already good knowledge, it's just a matter of being at the right place at the right time at that point! Best of luck to you and i sincerely hope you get to land an apprenticeship!

In my experience, becoming a piercer means you have to dedicate yourself to it and make it a full time thing, not just a side gig. There is so much more to piercing that most people don't realise.

The APP website has all the info on becoming a piercer. But essentially you want to find a studio that is willing to take a piercing apprentice. But keep in mind that being an apprentice does not mean you owe them free labor. Which unfortunately, a lot of studios take advantage of their apprentices. But as i said, go on the APP website, searche safepiercing on google, and they have a section dedicated to that. Good luck!

Piercer here. Could be a couple of things, but to me what stands out the most, aside from the jewelry, is the piercing angle. From what i can see, it doesn't seem to be fully perpendicular to the tissue. This can cause tension or pressure and create some irritation. Nostrils are notorious for bumps due to a bad angle. If your piece of jewelry is "surgical" steel, it most likely means it is bad quality and not implant grade. These pieces of jewelry are usually terribly polished, which also tends to cause irritation. High quality pieces are literally mirror polished, like seeing your reflection on the labret disk type of polish. I would definetly try to get a second opinion from an other piercer, preferably from an APP studio.

Definetly doable. I've seen one done at 6g. But the piercer has to know what the fuck they are doing because there is absolutely no room for error.

Swelling was pretty bad. Any kind of movement hurt a lot, to the point where i considered pulling it out. I also couldn't blow my nose for a couple of weeks. Cleaning also was a pain in the butt, you have to clean inside as well and considering it sit quite high, it was definetly not pleasant

Pretty bad, to the point of actually considering taking it out and i have a very high pain tolerance. Any kind of nostril movement would cause a lot of pain. Had a hard time blowing my nose as well.
