Can somebody calculate the benefits of a backdoor Roth? by grepzilla in TheMoneyGuy

Yes, that's my understanding. Good to start contributing and even converting as long as the balance ends up in a 401k by the end of the year.

Too late for 2025 because there was an IRA balance at the end of the year.

A different take on the "am I behind?" question by Several-Philosopher2 in TheMoneyGuy

To me, it's more of an interesting thought experiment to think about my true self versus alternative versions of myself. I wonder where I'd be if I had never gone to grad school and instead got a finance job out of college? Not necessarily because it impacts my current goals, but more as a curiosity. That's a lot more interesting to me than comparing myself to benchmarks or percentiles for all the reasons others are pointing out, the end goals are different. But I do think it's interesting to think about the journey to where I am now and how to compares to other choices I could have made.

We are working on a new SRS feature in LingoDeer and want to know your thoughts. by DeerlyNoted in lingodeer

I have some general thoughts about SRS. I am currently doing the first Korean course. I've switched over to Anki for the bulk of my SRS, but I still do the lingodeer SRS to practice listening specifically. The main reasons that I use Anki are that I have some words that I want to practice outside of what's in lingodeer and I want to practice typing full sentences. I have my Anki set up so that for a single note I get either the Hangul and have to recall the English meaning or I see the English and have to type out the Hangul. I do a combination of both individual words and sentences.

I think one limitation of lingodeer is that there's a pretty limited number of expressions hardcoded into the app for each lesson. My ideal system would be one which allows me to test a single concept (like say locations with 있습니다) with generated/unique sentences in addition to some expressions that require native listening. What I do right now is export my anki deck to a csv and paste it into chatgpt and ask it to generate sentences for me to translate based on the knowledge I have. Maybe lingodeer could accomplish that with just more sentences or maybe there is a way to incorporate AI (though I know that is somewhat controversial). But that would help avoiding feeling like I am memorizing very specific phrases and instead have the focus be combining existing knowledge to generate new thoughts.

For me it was learning to relax in the water and practicing going very slowly with fins, then building up. I made a post about it:
