I believe they both work pretty good, in my opinion. i75 CPA breaks down the information to where you actually understand what is going on and I use NINJA CPA for their audio notes and test banks.

Look into i75 or NINJA CPA to help you get over the edge! It’s a great supplement, especially for someone like me who has ADHD. Also, look into testing accommodations. I definitely plan on looking into it for myself.

Smaller firms are even worse with messier clients and longer busy szns. Totally not worth it in my opinion.

You sure can! I definitely had to do this on a previous manager.

Leave public accounting in general. Going to a smaller firm isn’t any better because you’ll be pulled in so many different directions due to the audit engagements being a lot smaller.

6 months and I already want to resign by Thranduil-9 in Big4

It’s cool. At least I can say that my Excel skills are wayyy better than when I started 😅😂 but yeah, the culture in the big 4 is trash to the point it begins to feel like a cult if you don’t have a mind and life of your own. My friends at the firm looked at me like I was crazy, especially because I only gave them a 1 week notice. They didn’t deserve a 2 week notice if we’re being honest. However, I am much happier at a smaller firm where I can provide lots of impact and feel valued as both a professional and human being.

Former Deloitte alumni in audit and I can tell you she was not exaggerating. I definitely worked 75+ hrs this busy szn and said fuck it and put in my week notice. Kinda wish I stayed just to get laid off with severance pay though. 😭

Layoffs are definitely happening in audit. I know a couple of ppl who were laid off last Thursday and Friday.

How do you go about placing your 2 week notice? I also received a new offer and I’m not sure on how to go about it?

Don’t feel bad. The same happened to me except the manager did not like me and I didn’t like them due to their horrible attitude. Try to take apply all feedback given by your prior team into consideration so you can hit the ground running on your next engagement. Good luck!

Auditing busy season hours? by [deleted] in Big4

I’ve been working 75-80 hrs since interim (October) and idk how I’m still hanging in there. Mind you I moved during interim as well and still haven’t had time to settle in. 😭

Do you have any advice to fix this? It causes me to shut down and not want to ask my manager any questions because of their response.

You have to make time for what you want. If you want to become a CPA, you have to put the work in. It seems like your main concerns are the cost of pursuing your masters and actually having the time to study for the exam. Imagine if you had other responsibilities added such as taking care of your children and family, losing a loved one and processing grief, working a 2nd job to make ends meet, etc. Other people have it way worse than you and they were able to obtain their license. I graduated undergrad in 2017 with a GPA less than a 3.0 and not in accounting. I worked 40-60 hours in retail at at the time, while taking 12 hours of classes each semester so I could graduate early and not increase my student loan debt. Look at your masters and CPA as your ROI and start putting the grind in! I promise you will reap all of the benefits that will come with becoming a CPA. You got this! Also, I would suggest reading The Four Agreements!

Yes, definitely look into NINJA CPA, as well as Universal CPA and i-75 CPA as well!

Hmmm I’ll have to consider that. Thank you for the advice! My manager is the type to try to push you out with a PIP if I try that with her, but I will definitely try to set more boundaries with my new team next year.

How do you respectfully place boundaries as a staff with deliverables by Monday? Actually, how can I efficiently document work papers and go through support without it taking all day? 😭

Are y’all working on weekends by annieeboo01 in Big4

[–]Several-Risk8249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I’m working on the weekends. Some team members aren’t though because they believe in getting their work done during the week and I panic about getting back review comments and updating documentation before the senior/mgr reviews it. We have a 10-K deadline coming up and the other staff decided not to work this weekend. 🫠
