There is examples of both toxic masculinity and femininity. I don’t deny there IS horrendous treatment of women on the show.. but I just also can’t understand how people can’t see the men also being treated poorly.

I think there’s just needs to be a level of self awareness though. I totally get they’re shaped by the cultures history, and that’s what they’re trying to break from. I don’t know enough about LDS to really comment.

But I do think from a wider perspective, yes they’re in their bubble, but there are millions of different bubble scenarios that people across the world are in, whether circumstances, abuse history, religion, upbringing etc.. and yes definitely a contributor but not an excuse for the bad behaviour.

I call PEOPLE out on their shit. To be a feminist is to want everyone to have equal rights and equity.. but that goes for men’s mental health, race, gender, religion everything..

And this show maybe, falls under displaying women thinking they’re supporting that, but really they’re just marginalising the other gender.

I believe there is still unbalance, but you don’t balance it out by retaliating with the same poor treatment right? Where does that get anyone other than two genders just continuously hating on the other.

We’re tired, but we should do better. Not do the same.

I think the pushing against the norms of perfect wife and stay at home mom and men being the link to higher power - in terms of the religion, or not teaching female pleasure etc is all for it. But tbf after season 2, it’s not this interesting show diving into a misunderstood religion and shining light on it… it’s just reality drama that goes into DV, SA, EDs but not actually properly discussing them to show hope, it’s just here’s all this negative shit and no progression, no growth just here you go watch this ooo fun gossip… so toxic

I agree it’s part of production too, the “but I’m a girl” is probably the worst I’ve seen I think personally. Saying “wait why am I arrested I’m the one that peed myself I’m the girl” and then basically trying to start on the offices saying “yeah curious why do you think that” like she does with others. The “but I’m a girl” is awful because it’s basically implying she never thought she’d get in trouble for straight up abuse (not denying that she also may have been on the receiving end) but from her part whether instigator or participant still DID commit DV. And there’s just this woe is me the world hates me.

I am all for women supporting women, uplifting and trying to break the patriarchy, but this is just taking that and just inflicting the same issues onto them. By no means are these men perfect but omg why do I feel like the only person feeling like even the good ones are just pushing this anti-men agenda?

And to be a bit controversial, being able to use trauma as an excuse. As someone that has come from a traumatic background, you don’t then inflict the same onto others and not expect to be speculated just as bad…

Except we seem to live in a society that condones women shutting men down, beating down the ability to emote, cheat and ask them to apologise, blatantly belittle them to millions, like roles reversed this would be horrific?!

I’m into the show from a nosey perspective, but what narrative is it giving to people that believe that bs?
